Texas is one of the younger upper echelon teams in the country, so their sample size from a scout's perspective is smaller, but there have been clear trends forming.

Offensive Strengths

Texas is a team that is heavily reliant on its perimeter game, both in the form of outside shooting and in getting buckets in the open floor.

Jordan Hamilton, a gifted perimeter shooter and a developing threat off the dribble, is Rick Barnes' primary scoring option. He is averaging nearly 20 points per game, while shooting over 42% from distance. We're seeing Hamilton have nice success in the post, but it isn't an area that is largely emphasized.

Freshmen Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson came to Austin with lofty expectations and have generally delivered.

Joseph has been a much better shooter than I was expecting and has done extremely well in transition and in the pick and roll.

Thompson, meanwhile, has been at his best when he has been more of a finisher.

Offensive Weaknesses

High percentage buckets have been somewhat difficult for the Longhorns to manufacture. Tristan Thompson profiles as a player that will develop consistency in the post, but he too frequently looks like a freshman to be considered completely reliable.

Senior Gary Johnson has never really developed into a primary option and is shooting less than 50% from the floor.

Thompson has been horrible from the free throw line and opposing teams need to use their bench fouls to make him earn his points from 15 feet.

While Hamilton has improved from his freshman season as more than just a spot-up shooter, he can still be negated by long and athletic wing defenders.

Defensive Strengths

Texas has been even better defensively than they have been on offense.

They defend opposing shooters very well in general, amongst the best in the country in this department.

Their post defense is an area of strength and Matt Hill provides excellent interior defense.

The Longhorns have enough quickness in the open floor and laterally to contain uptempo opponents and also teams that like to score off ISOs.

Defensive Weaknesses

The Longhorns don't have a real team weakness defensively, though their three best offensive players are probably three of their worst defensive players.

As good as Hamilton and Joseph are on offense, they do struggle individually on the defensive end. They are both much better against the dribble than they are in terms of rotating on shooters.

Thompson has struggled at times in the post.
