Right now, many teams are kicking themselves in the rare end for not selecting Jamaal Tinsley this past NBA Draft.

So, why did Orlando pass on him for Jeryl Sasser?

Tim Povtak of the Orlando Sentinel reports: "It was tough for us to pass on him. We brought him in for a second workout with the idea of taking him," said Magic Coach Doc Rivers. "It didn't go well. There were just some things that made us uncomfortable. Maybe we put too much stock in those predraft workouts."

The Magic, picking 15th and 22nd, took forward/center Steven Hunter of DePaul and guard Jeryl Sasser of SMU. Sasser played in his first game Saturday in Dallas after spending the first six weeks on the injured list.

Tinsley, meanwhile, was NBA rookie of the month in November. He is leading all rookies in assists (9.2 per game) and steals (1.86 per game), while ranking fifth in scoring (10.1 points per game) and sixth in rebounding (4.3 per game).

Despite a good finish in college, his attention span seemed to waiver quickly when the season ended. He was a no-show several times during the postseason interview process with individual NBA teams, sometimes showing up out of shape and raising questions about his attitude. The Magic had to re-schedule his second workout, and he could not even finish the workout prepared for him.

"You can only go on what you see," said Magic General Manager John Gabriel. "We still think we made a good choice [with Sasser]. We made a decision for the long term. He [Tinsley] didn't have a particularly favorable interview."
