The NBA yesterday rescinded the second flagrant foul called on Dikembe Mutombo on Tuesday night during the 76ers' win over the New York Knicks, meaning that Mutombo should not have been ejected early in the third quarter.
Mutombo said before the Sixers hosted Sacramento last night that general manager Billy King called the league to dispute the flagrant foul that came on the Sixers' first possession of the second half. He and Kurt Thomas became entangled while trying to rebound an Eric Snow miss, and Mutombo was called for his second flagrant of the game.

Mutombo was shocked at the call and stormed into the locker room, where he watched the Sixers erase a 20-point lead to win their 34th game of the season.

"I've been playing this game so long, getting kicked out. . . . I was shocked," Mutombo said. "I'm not known for being thrown out of a game before. Getting kicked out from a regular-season game was shocking news. That's why I didn't know how to react. Who got kicked out? Me?"

Mutombo played just 17 minutes against the Knicks, scoring three points. He said that it was the first time in 11 seasons that he has been ejected from a game.

"It might take me a couple days, man, to figure out what happened," Mutombo said. "It's not part of my character."

The NBA has a point system to track how many flagrant fouls a player receives during the season. The two that Mutombo received were worth one point apiece. Some are worth two points. After a player accrues six points, he must serve a one-game suspension, which Kenyon Martin of the New Jersey Nets did recently.
