The Hornets will not field a team in next month's Southern California Summer Pro League.

Coach Tim Floyd, hired last week, is not expected to have selected his assistants before the summer league begins July 7-21 in Long Beach, Calif. The summer teams are usually coached by assistants.

The Hornets also have a mostly experienced team returning, and they don't foresee the need to ready a draft pick or free agent for a crucial role on the team with summer league play, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Bob Bass said.

"It just seems that it wasn't the thing to do," Bass said. "Who was going to coach them?"
