The Hornets today will name former general manager Jeff Bower as assistant coach at a news conference following the pre-draft workout at the Alario Center, a source close to the negotiations told The Times-Picayune on Thursday.

It has also been learned the team will name former Los Angeles Clippers coach Alvin Gentry as an assistant, but that announcement is expected to come at a later time, the source said.

Bower, who in April announced his resignation as Hornets general manager, had accepted an assistant coaching position at Penn State. Since then, he has stayed with the team to assist in preparations for next week's NBA draft, and has decided to stay in New Orleans, the source said.

Gentry was fired as the Clippers coach midway through last season after the team got off to a 19-39 start. His overall record as a head coach is 177-226.
