ESPNews reports that LA Lakers head coach Rudy Tomjanovich will resign after tonight's game versus Portland. Details are still unclear at this time but undoubtedly his resignation is health related.

Tomjanovich missed Sunday night's game vs Charlotte because of the stomach flu, but the reasons behind his resignation remain unknown. Frank Hamblen, the only holdover from the Phil Jackson staff, coached the team on Sunday and will become the interim head coach.

Tomjanovich won two championships as the head coach of the Houston Rockets in mid '90's and was in his first year with the Lakers.

Tomjanovich was hired as head coach of the Lakers this past summer, replacing Phil Jackson. He left his post as Rockets head coach due to health problems in 2003.
