The exorbitant contract that led to Brian Grant's departure could wind up leading the veteran power forward back to the Heat.

As part of the NBA's one-time "amnesty" program for teams operating in excess of the league's dollar-for-dollar luxury tax, Grant was waived Wednesday by the Los Angeles Lakers.

"He's got great feelings for Miami," agent Mark Bartelstein said. "I'm sure I'll talk to Pat [Riley] or Randy [Pfund] about it and see what happens."

Traded a year ago from the Heat as part of a package for Shaquille O'Neal, Grant will be free to sign with the team of his choice. The 33-year-old power forward recently expressed interest in a return to South Florida.

"He has indicated that he has a big interest in returning to Miami," Nets President Rod Thorn said. "He liked living there."
