The Hornets wanted guard J.R. Smith to participate with the team's summer league team, but according to The Times-Picayune Smith expects to be traded and as a result will not be participating.

With the Hornets coming to terms with guards Peja Stojakovic and Bobby Jackson, playing time for Smith appears to be scarce.  Smith already spent a lot of last season in coach Byron Scott's doghouse, and with Scott signing an extension a few weeks ago it's apparent there will be no coaching change in New Orleans any time soon.

"If a trade happens, it happens," Earl Smith, JR's father, said. "It doesn't matter to us really, but he's not playing in summer league. Why play if he's going to be traded?"
