RealGM's weekly NBA team rankings are objectively measured through the use of our Floor Impact Counter metric.

Team: 08-09 FIC Differential (Improvement from 07-08)

1. Los Angeles Lakers: 37.0 (+22.6)

The Lakers are first both offensively and defensively in points per 100 possessions.

2. Utah Jazz: 23.6 (+7.5)

The Jazz have been boosted by a weak schedule (home and home against Clippers) to offset the Deron Williams injury, but the loss at New York to start a five-game road trip that normally would be a 4-1 stretch could turn into a 1-4 or even 0-5 setback.

3. Atlanta Hawks: 19.7 (+20.7)

Since his 0-6 3-point shooting night against Orlando to open the season, Mike Bibby has shot 11-23 to spread opposing defenses for the undefeated Hawks.

4. Miami Heat: 17.1 (+32.6)

The Heat are +6.8 in turnover differential per game.  That over/under win total of 33.5 looks even more of the lock that it did a few weeks ago.

5. Orlando Magic: 17.0 (+10.0)

Following surprising losses against Atlanta and Memphis to start the season, they have rattled off four straight wins, but the backcourt remains an area where they will be outplayed on most nights.
