Fred VanVleet has refused to address his contract status with the Toronto Raptors beyond saying “I’m completely focused on his team. My loyalty is to this team and to this franchise and trying to get us back to the level that we’re accustomed to around here.” However, with a player option for next season, VanVleet's potential pending free agency will remain a source of speculation.

The Phoenix Suns and Orlando Magic have emerged as potential teams that could pursue the veteran point guard in free agency. Orlando is expected to have north of $30 million in cap space this offseason. Phoenix would likely have to work a sign-and-trade or a deal where VanVleet opts in and is traded.

VanVleet projects to be one of the better free agents available, and one of the better point guard options. The soon-to-be 29-year-old signed a four-year, $83 million deal to remain with Toronto in 2020. VanVleet's option for next season is worth $22.8 million, but he's expected to opt out for a long-term deal as he heads into his early-30s.
