Anthony may return to Syracuse

Mar 31, 2003 8:47 AM

Scott Pitoniak of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports: Syracuse forward and projected Top-3 pick in this year's NBA Draft Carmelo Anthony might decide to spend another year in college.

During a post-game newsconference after his Orangemen advanced to the Final Four yesterday with a 63-47 victory over Oklahoma, Anthony said that he didn't want this Final Four to be his last.

?This is my first time going to the Final Four and, hopefully, not my last.?

SU coach Jim Boeheim, seated one person away, chimed in, ?I?ll second that one.?

Later in the locker room, Anthony told a reporter, ?Take that as a hint.?

The NBA Early-Entry deadline is May 12th.

Two Gators going pro?

Mar 24, 2003 7:17 AM

Joe Schad of the Orlando Sentinel reports: After their team got bounced from the NCAA tournament yesterday evening by Michigan State, two Florida Gator players said they might go pro.

Sophomore David Lee and Freshman Christian Drejer are those two gators with the first more likely to go and the latter likely to stay.

"Nothing is for sure right now," said Lee, who scored 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting in Florida's NCAA Tournament loss to Michigan State. "I'm going to talk things over with my family and make that decision."

Lee could be drafted in the mid-to-late first round.

As for Drejer, there were rumblings that he could have gone in the first round last year but decided to join the Gators. Still, he sounded as if he is coming back for his sophomore season.

"I think I will be back," Drejer said. "That's the plan. But nothing is for sure."

The NBA Draft's Early Entry deadline is May 12th.

Vujanic unsure about Knicks

Mar 12, 2003 8:47 AM

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports: New York Knicks 2001 second-round pick Milos Vujanic is still unsure as to whether or not he will join the team next season.

Last weekend, Knicks GM Scott Layden met with Vujanic to discuss the possibility of him joining the Knicks next season.

"I'm thinking about my club right now. I'll have to see how things go in New York. My goal is to be in the NBA and play in New York, but right now, I don't know."

It is speculated that he might not want to go to the Knicks because they already have three point guards under contract for next season.  As of right now, the Knicks have Howard Eisley, Frank Williams, and Charlie Ward, who can be bought out, under contract for next season.

SI: Age limit deal could come next month

Mar 8, 2003 12:59 AM

Could the NBA and the NBA Player's Association be closing in on an age limit deal?

According to Ian Thomsen of Sports Illustrated, it could happen as early as next month.

"I'm hearing from a lot of agents that it's going to happen," says a Western Conference executive, echoing a view held by several G.M.'s.

Under the agreement, which would start in 2004, a player would be prohibited from entering the league if he wasn't at least 20 in the calendar year of the draft.

Agent Marc Cornstein, further speculated that the upcoming rule had an affect on the decision to declare Darko Milicic eligible for the upcoming draft.

"I wouldn't be surprised," says Cornstein, who has heard that his client, 17-year-old Darko Milicic, the likely pick after top prospect LeBron James, was declared eligible by Stern for the June draft because otherwise he couldn't have entered the NBA until 2005.

James to appear in Capital Classic

Mar 5, 2003 5:13 AM

Ever wondered what will be LeBron James' last game as an amateur?

According to a report by Jon Siegal in the Washington Times you need to wonder no more, because James headlines the list of high school standouts for the Capital Classic All-Star Game April 17 at MCI Center.

NCAA rules stipulate that anyone who plays in more than two of these types of games loses his college eligibility, and with James already penciled in to play in the McDonalds High School game in Cleveland and the RoundBall Classic in Chicago James' jump to the NBA where is expected to be the top pick is a foregone conclusion.
