Hawks Ink Jeremy Richardson

The Atlanta Hawks today signed Fort Worth Flyers forward Jeremy Richardson to a 10-day contract, according to Hawks? Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight. Richardson is the seventh Gatorade Call-Up from the NBA Development League this season, the second from the Flyers.

The 6-foot-7 Richardson has started 15 games this season for the Flyers, averaging 18.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg and 1.5 apg (.466 FG%, .404 3FG%, .864 FT%). He is tied for 11th in the league in scoring. Richardson was selected by the Flyers with the ninth pick of the second round in the 2006 D-League Draft.

Hawks To Sign Jeremy Richardson To 10-Day Deal

Jeremy Richardson has been called up by the Atlanta Hawks for a 10-day contract, according to DraftExpress.com.

Richardson was with his team, the Fort Worth Flyers, on a road trip in Boise, Idaho when he learned of the news this morning, and will fly out to Atlanta on Thursday evening to sign a contract and join the Hawks. He will not be playing in tonight?s game against the Idaho Stampede.

According to Richardson, his team?s trainer knocked on his hotel door this morning asking him to call their coach, Sidney Moncrief. He said he was ?worried I might have done something wrong in their last game,? before being surprised with the good news. Richardson told us that the call-up to the Hawks ?came as a total shock,? and was ?the last thing on my mind.?

Fellow former D-Leaguer Dijon Thompson, who was called up by the Hawks on January 4th, will be subsequently released following two consecutive 10-day contracts.

Smith Fined $25,000 For Middle Finger Gestures

Josh Smith, forward for the Atlanta Hawks, was fined $25,000 for making an obscene gesture to the crowd in last Saturday's 104-85 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats.

As he left for the locker room, he raised both middle fingers to the Charlotte crowd while in the tunnel.

Smith Apologizes For Obscene Gesture

Josh Smith apologized for his obscene gestures when the Hawks were playing in Charlotte on Saturday.  He is still waiting to hear about a potential fine or suspension.

"I just wanted to apologize to my teammates, the organization and Hawks fans for acting out the way I did," Smith said. "I know I kind of went out of character a bit, but I was frustrated and let my emotions get the best of me during a crucial time. I'm not making excuses for myself when I say that; I'm just telling you what really happened.

"But again, I want to apologize to my teammates, the organization and the fans for what happened. Because that's not the way it's supposed it happen."

Josh Smith Flips Off Charlotte Fans

Josh Smith, forward for the Atlanta Hawks, made obscene gestures to the crowd as he left for the locker room following his second-quarter ejection Saturday night in the Hawks' game against Charlotte.

Television replays showed Smith raise both middle fingers to the crowd as he was about halfway through the tunnel, apparently reacting to being heckled by fans.

Duke To Retire Numbers For Williams, Redick

Duke will retire the jersey numbers of Shelden Williams and J.J. Redick, coach Mike Krzyzewski said Thursday.

Williams' No. 23 will be retired Jan. 28 while the ceremony for Redick's No. 4 is Feb. 4.

"Both of these players are deserving of this honor," Krzyzewski said. "They were very different players, but worked amazingly well together for four years."

They will become the 12th and 13th Duke players to have their numbers retired.

Josh Smith Returns To Hawks

Josh Smith returned to the Atlanta Hawks' lineup Friday night, about 2? weeks after undergoing hernia surgery.

Smith had the operation on Dec. 26 and was expected to miss two to four weeks. The 6-foot-9 forward wound up needing the low end of the recovery period.

"I feel good," Smith said before the Hawks hosted the Detroit Pistons. "I was going to come back next week, but I felt real good at practice. So I was telling myself, 'I might as well go today.'"

The Hawks went 1-7 during Smith's absence.

Rumored Trade Among Atlanta, Portland And Washington

Sekou Smith of the Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trailblazers, and Washington Wizards are discussing a multi-player trade.

The rumored deal would have the Blazers sending Jamaal Magloire to the Wizards who would send Brendan Haywood and Jarvis Hayes to the Hawks while they send Lorenzon Wright, Salim Stoudemire, and Esteban Batista to the Blazers.

Hawks Sign Thompson To 10-Day Contract

The Hawks signed forward Dijon Thompson to a 10-day contract Saturday.

The 6-foot-7, 195-pound Thompson averaged 20.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 12 games with Albuquerque of the NBA Development League this season.

Dijon Thompson is likely to be signed to a contract by the Atlanta Hawks.

Starting forward Josh Smith is out another three weeks following hernia surgery.
