The Atlanta Hawks tonight acquired guard Kirk Hinrich and center/forward Hilton Armstrong from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Mike Bibby, Maurice Evans, Jordan Crawford and Atlanta's 2011 first round draft pick.
“We felt we had a good opportunity to improve our ballclub by adding Kirk and Hilton,” Sund said.
“Kirk is a well-rounded player that gives us options at both guard positions. In addition to being a solid and hard-nosed defender, he is a good shooter who can also distribute the ball. His resume includes significant playoff experience as well. Hilton can play both center and power forward, and will add frontcourt depth.”
The Hawks have acquired Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong, according to sources.
Mike Bibby, Mo Evans, Jordan Crawford and Atlanta's 2011 first round pick will go to the Wizards in return.
The Hawks and Wizards are closing in on a multi-player trade that would send Kirk Hinrich to Atlanta, according to a source.
Hinrich was traded from the Bulls to Washington in a move to free up salary cap space last offseason. He is signed through the 2012 season.
Ken Berger of CBS Sports is reporting that the Hawks may send Jamal Crawford to the Wizards in the deal. Crawford has an expiring contract.
A one-for-one trade involving Hinrich and Crawford is possible, per RealGM's Trade Checker.
The Hawks are trying hard to trade Marvin Williams, who has two years and more than $15 million left on his contract after this season.
He also has a player option for 2013-14 worth $7.5 million.
"For what he makes, it's a tough sell," said one NBA coach.
Atlanta wants to acquire Kirk Hinrich from Washington, but they haven't been able to sell the Wizards on taking back Williams.
The Hawks are interested in veteran Kirk Hinrich, but they aren't willing to meet Washington's current asking price.
The Wizards want both a young player and a first-round pick for Hinrich.
Atlanta is pushing for Washington to take back Mike Bibby for Hinrich, which would save the Wizards some money for next season. Hinrich is scheduled to make $8 million in 2011-12, while Bibby will earn $6.2 million.
The Wizards aren't interested in taking on Marvin Williams, who has two years and $15.7 million left on his deal after this season.
The Hawks and Cavaliers are discussing a trade that would send Ramon Sessions and Manny Harris to Atlanta, according to a source.
Jeff Teague and Maurice Evans would be sent to Cleveland in return.
The Hawks have watched their competitors in the Eastern Conference fortify their rosters and now they appear ready to attempt a similar move.
Atlanta has inquired with the Nets about Devin Harris as they search for a point guard.
Those discussions could pick up after the completion of a trade between the Knicks and Nuggets that will send Carmelo Anthony to New York.
Harris is just the kind of point guard the Hawks are looking for, but he will make $9.3 million next season and would push the team past the current luxury-tax threshold.
Jamal Crawford is one player that has been discussed as a possible component in a Harris deal.
The Hawks are shopping Marvin Williams, according to a pair of NBA general managers.
Williams is owed a guaranteed $16.8 million through next season. His contract includes a team option worth $8.8 million for the 2012-13 season.
He is averaging 10.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season.
Atlanta drafted Williams with the second overall pick back in 2005.
The Cavaliers could trade Ramon Sessions, who scored 32 points in their win on Wednesday over the Lakers.
Sources tell Chris Broussard that the Hawks, Knicks and Blazers are among the interested parties in Sessions.
