Trae Young insists an argument he had with John Collins during a film season, which was reported by The Athletic, was overblown and not atypical.
Collins criticized Young for mismanaging the clock on offense and questioned his early shot-clock attempts.
“Of course if there’s anything out there publicly, I always go directly to [that person],” Young relayed to Yahoo Sports. “As for the John [Collins] incident, me and him talked about it as soon as it got out the next day and we were both confused. It just got out and it was over a regular film session. So there’s no beef or anything in there to begin with. There hasn’t been any locker room issues on my side. Anything that people were saying about locker room issues, there hasn’t been one. It’s all about our team and how we’ve been trying to get better in film sessions.”
Collins will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

The Atlanta Hawks offered John Collins a contract extension worth more than $90 million, according to sources that spoke with The Athletic.
Collins sees himself as a maximum salary player. Collins will be a restricted free agent this offseason in a market where there are more teams with max cap space than there will be suitable players to spend it on.
Collins was one of only four players who averaged at least 20 points and 10 rebounds last season.
During a film session this week after blowing a 15-point lead in the second half to the New York Knicks, John Collins raised several issues about how the Atlanta Hawks are functioning with Trae Young running the offense, three sources tell The Athletic.
Collins discussed how the Hawks need to get into offensive sets more quickly and to limit Young's early shot clock attempts that leave his teammates uninvolved. Collins also shared his desire for more ball movement and flow on offense.
While there was no back-and-forth between the two, Young made it clear he strongly disagreed with the assessment of Collins.
“Trae is my brother regardless,” Collins, who chose not to elaborate further, told The Athletic via text message.
The Hawks currently rank fifth in the NBA in offensive efficiency at 114.0 points per 100 possessions.
Sources within the Hawks pointed to the recent contract extension negotations Collins when through for a possible explanation for his frustration. Collins turned down adeal worth more than $90 million over four years, according to sources.
