Bulls Won't Rule Out Trading Jimmy Butler

Apr 14, 2016 11:11 AM

Gar Forman and John Paxson made clear that nobody on the Chicago Bulls' roster will be untouchable this offseason.

"We have to explore all options. With that said, Jimmy has had a fantastic year," said Paxson.

Paxson also admitted Butler and Derrick Rose didn't mesh together on a consistent basis.

Butler had an All-Star season and questioned how hard Fred Hoiberg was coaching the Bulls, comments that stuck with both parties the rest of the season.

Apr 14, 2016 10:53 AM

The Chicago Bulls have been encouraged by the emergence of Cristiano Felicio this season.

The Bulls own Felicio's rights at just $874,636 next season.

Fred Hoiberg said Felicio will work out with the Bulls this summer, but he could miss summer league because of a national team commitment as Brazil hosts the Olympics.

"I just try to bring energy and a defensive mindset," Felicio said.

Jimmy Butler Skips Bulls' Flight To New Orleans

Apr 14, 2016 10:53 AM

Jimmy Butler did not fly with the Chicago Bulls on Sunday to New Orleans ahead of their game on Monday.

Butler had a family commitment and would fly to New Orleans later on Sunday and he plans on playing against the Pelicans.

"It's the first time he hasn't flown with the team,'' one source said. "But he will play tomorrow for sure.''

Butler's agent, Happy Walters, said he was unaware that his client was not on the team plane.

"Maybe he had stuff to take care of,'' Walters said. "Whatever he's doing, he'll be at the game.''

The Bulls have been eliminated from the playoffs.

Fred Hoiberg Not Sure If He'd Coach Bulls Harder Next Season

Apr 14, 2016 10:53 AM

Fred Hoiberg talked about how comments from Jimmy Butler about how hard he coaches the team took on a life of their own on whether the players respond to him.

Butler said in mid-December that Hoiberg needed to coach the Bulls a lot harder.

"When I go back and look at different segments of the season, you know, we got off to a pretty solid start with this thing," said Hoiberg. Then some things happened. I think most of the that comes from the one comment that was made after the New York game by Jimmy. We have had some pretty heated moments with our group, in the locker roo, in film session.

"Would I change it? Would I be more vocal, more direct? Maybe. We’ll evaluate that when we go into the offseason."

Bulls Would Prefer To Re-Sign Joakim Noah Over Pau Gasol

Apr 14, 2016 10:53 AM

The Chicago Bulls would like to re-sign Joakim Noah on a short-term deal.

Noah has been a favorite player and ambassador of Jerry Reinsdorf, while John Paxson has a genuine bond with Noah.

The Bulls are more likely to part ways with Pau Gasol this offseason despite having the chance to trade him to the Sacramento Kings at the deadline.

Noah remains invested enough in the team to question Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose for their silence at the April 3 team meeting.

Jobs Of Bulls' Front Office Likely Tied To Success Or Failure Of Fred Hoiberg

Apr 1, 2016 7:42 PM

The Chicago Bulls almost certainly will retain Fred Hoiberg this offseason.

Hoiberg was fired after the Bulls fired Tom Thibodeau after they were eliminated in the second round of last year's playoffs.

Gar Forman and John Paxson had a difficult working relationship with Thibodeau towards the end of his tenure and Hoiberg was the probable candidate to replace him for months.

"Hoiberg is management's guy now and they are on the line for his success," said Wojnarowski. "Management can't fire Tom Thibodeau with $9 million left on his deal and then (fire) Hoiberg with $20 million remaining over four years on his contract.

"Paxson and Forman have to reshape the roster and support Hoiberg, which is unusual for them. Mostly Bulls' management is used to blaming and undermining its coach. Now, they have to understand their own job security is liked tied to Hoiberg's success or failure on the job."

Bulls No Longer Sure Pau Gasol 'Part Of Core'

Apr 1, 2016 12:48 PM

The Chicago Bulls are softening their public stance that Pau Gasol "is part of the core."

Gar Forman made those comments at the deadline when Gasol appeared in trade rumors.

The Sacramento Kings reportedly had strong interest in trading for Gasol.

Gasol chose the Bulls in the offseason of 2014 but he now appears open-minded to entertaining offers from other teams when he hits free agency.

Jimmy Butler Doesn't Plan On Leaving Bulls, Proud To Be Part Of Franchise

Apr 1, 2016 1:14 PM

Fred Hoiberg called speculation that Jimmy Butler trade talk emanates from a damaged relationship between him and Butler "completely false."

Butler is in the first season of a new contract with the Chicago Bulls.

Several teams, including the Boston Celtics, inquired about the availability of Butler at the deadline.

"I don't plan on going anywhere," said Butler. "I can't control what everybody else does. I know that this is the city that I love, Chicago. And I want to wear that jersey. I want to wear that name on the front, and I wear it proudly. All I got to do is continue to control what I can control. That's try to help this team win games."

Butler ripped Hoiberg after a December loss, saying he had to "coach harder."

"To tell you the truth, I don't pay attention to the rumors," Butler said. "Somebody sent [the story] to me today, and I just clicked off of it. I mean, why am I getting in [to the speculation]? I can't control it. I can't say don't do this or don't do that. That's not my job. If I do what I'm supposed to do on the floor, then everything else takes care of itself. I'm a firm believer in that."

Hoiberg said his relationship with Butler has improved since the comments.

"I haven't heard anything about [the report]," Hoiberg said before the game. "But again, I don't read a lot right now. I think Jimmy and I have a really good relationship right now. I've been communicating a lot with him. Since he had the injury and has come back we've really limited his time. He hasn't done much in shootaround just to try and save his legs for the game. I obviously think the world of him for how hard he pushes himself and how much he's just improved his game over the years with his work ethic. I think that rubs off onto the other guys. So Jimmy absolutely is a very important part to this team."
