Dwyane Wade Comfortable With Transition From Star To Role Player

Nov 30, 2017 12:01 PM

Over the past few seasons, Dwyane Wade has reinvented himself from a high usage star to more of a complementary scorer.

LeBron James has been impressed with how Wade has handled his transition from star to role player.

“When you’re a star, a real big star and you’ve been a franchise player, guys have a hard time being real with themselves,” James said. “It’s crazy to me that one of my best friends is just real with the whole situation.”

Wade is averaging 10.8 points per game this season, down from 16.2 last season with the Bulls.

“I’m not in my 15th year like LeBron is in his 15th year,” Wade said. “Even though you can arguably say we’re both in the Hall of Fame when our careers are over, I’m not in the same place he’s at, so I’m not going to walk in here like I want to play 40 minutes a night, I want the ball 90 times a game. I don’t want that. My body can’t take that. I’ve been through a lot body-wise. But I know what I can do. I know what I can give you and that’s what I try to focus on. And I’m man enough to say that and be OK with that.”

Wade's arrival bothered some members of the Cavaliers and eventually led to the release of Richard Jefferson.

“I still know what he’s capable of doing. Why wouldn’t you want another guy in the locker room that brings a championship mentality and a guy who can still play?” James said. “So, of course, it bothered me, but (expletive) it. It is what it is.”

“They had a style here. I don’t fit the style from what they played over the last couple years,” Wade said. “But this is a different team.”

Dwyane Wade Unsure If Cavs Were Unanimous In Signing Him

Nov 29, 2017 12:45 PM

Dwyane Wade was recruited by LeBron James to join him with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he's not sure if it was a move unanimously desired by the franchise.

The addition of Wade initially moved J.R. Smith to a reserve role.

“He wanted me here. I know that for a fact. I don’t know if the feeling was mutual all the way around. But I knew that somebody that I’ve won championships with before, someone I’m very good friends with, someone who I respected and loved to be with, loved to play with, wanted me to be here. I definitely took every team and every situation into consideration. Ultimately, I felt this would be the best for me,” Wade told Yahoo Sports.

76ers Expected To Pursue LeBron James In Free Agency

Nov 29, 2017 8:15 PM

Executives around the NBA believe the Philadelphia 76ers will attempt to sign LeBron James in free agency.

James is widely expected to become a free agent in 2018 though his eventual destination remains a speculative mystery. While James has also been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, signing with the 76ers would give James the opportunity to stay in the Eestern Conference and avoid teams like the Warriors, Rockets and Spurs.

The 76ers could fairly easily create enough salary cap space to sign James to a max contract starting at $34 million.

The 76ers would give James the opportunity to play with a talented young roster anchored by Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.

James and Simmons share an agent in Rich Paul.

“The organization has done a great job believing in Brett Brown’s system, believing in what he wanted to do and they gave him time,” James said before the Cavaliers beat the Sixers 113-91 on Monday.

LeBron James Ejected For First Time In NBA Career

Nov 29, 2017 11:17 AM

LeBron James was ejected for the first time in his NBA career in Tuesday's win over the Heat. James was playing in his 1,082nd career game.

James was ejected with 1:59 remaining in the third quarter.

After getting a steal, James dribbled upcourt and missed a layup then argued with referee Kane Fitzgerald that James Johnson fouled him on the attempt.

Fitzgerald assessed James with a technical foul and ejected him from the game.

"I got fouled all the way up the court, from the time that I stripped him, all the way until I got to the rim," James said of the sequence leading up to his ejection. "I said what I had to say and then I moved on, but he decided I should get [ejected]. It is what it is. We got the win, and that's what's most important."

Fitzgerald explained the rationale behind his decision to a pool reporter after the game.

"It was a culmination of a couple different acts," Fitzgerald said. "Immediately after the no-call, he turned and threw an air punch directly at me, and then he aggressively charged at me, and then he used vulgarity in my ear a few times."

Asked about arguing with an official when the Cavs were up by 23, James said, "I'm trying to win every possession. I don't care if we're up 23 or we're down 23. I want to win every possession."

LeBron James: Black Uniforms Will Always Be Part Of Cavs' History

Nov 24, 2017 12:02 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are revealing their new black uniforms for Friday's game against the Charlotte Hornets.

"They're great," James said. "Black Friday, it's going to be nice to see that tonight. Hopefully everybody will wear all black tonight, all our fans and everything, to kind of set the mood. So, they're great uniforms."

The Cavs wore black jerseys on the road against Golden State in games 5 and 7 of the 2016 Finals.

"It's probably going to be a staple of this franchise forever," James said. "Because we wore our first championship in franchise history in all black so, no matter who is in uniform here throughout the rest of eternity, I feel like the black will be incorporated, the black uniform with probably be incorporated in the grand scheme of things just for the memories."

Isaiah Thomas Practices With Cavs For First Time

Nov 21, 2017 12:10 AM

Isaiah Thomas practiced with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first time on Sunday, participating in five-on-none drills.

There has yet to be an update for when Thomas might return with Jan. 1st being the previous target.

"I'm protecting myself, so, even if they wanted me to hurry back, I'm not going to hurry back, just because I've got a long career ahead of me and an important summer as well," Thomas told cleveland.com. "So, I've got to make sure I'm 100 percent healthy before I step out on the floor. But these guys have not rushed me one bit. They've taken their time with me and I appreciate that. Because most teams, they want you out there, especially if things aren't going well."

Thomas said the workout he completed Sunday was the "hardest I've run" during his recovery, and it "felt good for the most part."
