The Mavs lost to the Jazz on Friday night, and have lost seven out of their last nine games.
Luka Doncic called out the Dallas Mavericks' effort following their 120-101 loss to the Utah Jazz.
The Mavs had now lost seven out of their last nine games, with five losses coming in double digits.
"I never felt like this ... I would say right now it's looking like we don't care, honestly, if we win games or not. We just [need] more energy, more effort, dive for every ball, box out, everything," said Doncic following the game.
Josh Richardson, Dorian Finney-Smith, Dwight Powell, and Maxi Kleber have all missed time this season due to COVID-19 protocols.
Rick Carlisle added that the team needs to stick together during their slump.
"It's just a tough stretch and we've got to play through it. Right now, it's about sticking together and fighting our way through this thing."
Talen Horton-Tucker is expected to receive interest from "multiple teams" in free agency with the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks specifically mentioned.
The Lakers can give Horton-Tucker a contract starting around $10.5 million while rival teams will be limited by the mid-level exception starting at approximately $9 million. A quirk in the cap, however, can allow for a third-year balloon payment worth as much as the maximum salary with a raise in the fourth. A rival team could pay Horton-Tucker $9 million in the first year, $10 million in the second year then jump to more than $32 million in the third year and $32 million in the fourth. The Lakers could match the deal.
“The way the rules are, I don’t see the Lakers letting him go,” one general manager told Heavy.com. “But teams can make this a more difficult decision for the Lakers than they’d like. Teams that have a lot of cap space and are looking to gamble on a young guy, why not put your money into him? The upside is obvious.”
Luka Doncic and Jayson Tatum have been named the NBA's Players of the Week for Week 3.
Doncic averaged 30.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 11.3 assists as the Dallas Mavericks went 3-0.
Tatum averaged 33.0 points and 5.3 rebounds as the Boston Celtics also went 3-0.
Maxi Kleber is set to enter isolation and will miss the next 10-14 days due to COVID-19 protocols.
In addition, the Mavs have shut down their practice facility after the team's second positive test in three days.
Jalen Brunson, Dorian Finney-Smith and Josh Richardson are currently quarantining in Denver.
The Dallas Mavericks had a player test positive for COVID-19 while two additional players are expected to quarantine for up to seven days.
The two players who were exposed have tested negative and are expected to continue to test negative.
The three players remained in Denver while the rest of the Mavericks' traveling party returned to Dallas.
Luka Doncic will miss the Dallas Mavericks' Sunday game against the Chicago Bulls due to a left quad contusion.
Rick Carlisle said that Doncic could return on Monday against the Rockets.
"We’ll just have to see how he feels when he gets up tomorrow and if tomorrow is going to be a possibility or not," said Carlisle.
The NBA fined three players stemming from their roles during a game this week between the Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets.
James Johnson was fined $40,000. For the Hornets, Cody Martin lost $25,000 and Caleb Martin $20,000.
The incident happened with about 2:40 left in Wednesday's game, a 118-99 victory by Charlotte.
The NBA said Johnson deliberately pushed Cody Martin out of bounds, "aggressively confronting him and initiating the incident."
