According to espn.com, Clyde Drexler has withdrawn his name from consideration for the vacant Portland Trailblazers Head coaching job.
According to Clutchcity, who got their information from the local Fox station, Shandon Anderson has informed the Rockets that he will opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent. Anderson is seeking a boost in pay over the mid-level exception he had been playing for over the last two years.
In a hodge-podge of news, the Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen reports that Pau Gasol will probably be picked in the top-10. In fact, he says, drafting teams are allowed to pay only $350,000 over the rookie scale for his $2 million buy-out, meaning he may have to go top-5 if he is to play in the NBA next year. Last years co-Rookies of the Year, Elton Brand and Steve Francis, were left off the roster for the 2002 Goodwill Games. Fran Blinebury of the Houston Chronicle reports that Lakers forward Robert Horry would like to return to Houston, where he was a member of their two-championship squad. Horry's wife and two children live in Houston and he dislikes living apart from them for half the year. He is scheduled to make $5.3 million next year and the year after on his current contract. But he can opt out this summer.
The Rockets recently worked out Ken Johnson and Michael Bradley. They are to also workout Loren Woods and Eric Chenowith.
