Lakers Unwilling To Attach 2027 First Round Pick In Trade For John Wall

Jan 26, 2022 4:13 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers are unwilling to include their 2027 first round pick in a possible trade of Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for John Wall.

Houston is interested in a trade of Wall for Westbrook, but only if they're incentivized to do so.

The Lakers aren't convinced Wall will be a meaningful upgrade, while surrounding a valuable trade chip. The Lakers also don't want to pay a premium to move on from Westbrook so soon after sending a number of assets to the Washington Wizards for him.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis encouraged the Lakers to trade for Westbrook rather than a deal Rob Pelinka had negotiated with the Sacramento Kings for Buddy Hield.

The Lakers still also hope that Westbrook could have a successful second half of the season, similar to his lone year with the Washington Wizards.

Heat 'One Of More Persistent Teams' In Pursuing Christian Wood

Jan 24, 2022 11:47 AM

The Miami Heat have been "one of the more persistent teams" in discussing a Christian Wood trade with the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets are unlikely to trade Wood by the deadline unless they receive a substantial offer.

Wood has been a target for other teams on the trade market as well.

Wood is averaging 17.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

Eric Gordon Likely To Remain With Rockets Beyond Deadline

Jan 25, 2022 10:19 PM

The Houston Rockets have received interest from a number of teams on Eric Gordon, but Kelly Iko writes that "barring an offer that simply can’t be ignored, it’s becoming more likely that Gordon remains in Houston past the deadline."

Gordon has been one of Houston's key veterans on what is an otherwise young team.

Gordon is shooting a career best 45.2 percent on three-pointers.

Gordon is under contract for 22-23 and 23-24 on a reasonable deal.

Rockets Would Trade John Wall To Lakers For Russell Westbrook, Draft Capital

Jan 21, 2022 3:39 PM

The Houston Rockets would be interested in trading John Wall for Russell Westbrook if they were incentivized, sources tell Marc Stein of Substack.

The Rockets traded for Westbrook during the 2019 offseason and then traded him for Wall in 2020 in which they received a first round pick.

With Wall not currently playing and no buyout on the horizon, the Rockets are unlikely to find another trade option before his contract expires in 2023. Houston would seek "sufficient draft compensation" for taking on Westbrook, who has struggled with his first on the Lakers' roster. The Lakers could offer their 2027 first round pick or multiple second rounders. Westbrook wouldn't play for the Rockets, just as Wall hasn't played since last season.

The scenario is described by Stein as unlikely between now and Feb. 10th.

The Lakers gave up a first round pick plus three rotation players in Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Montrezl Harrell in order to acquire Westbrook from the Washington Wizards.

Rockets Seeking First Round Pick For Eric Gordon

Jan 17, 2022 8:55 AM

The Houston Rockets have made Eric Gordon available leading up to the trade deadline, and they seek an ambitious return. Houston is letting rival teams know they want a first-round pick for Gordon.

The 33-year-old guard has three seasons left on his contract. Gordon's deal is for $18.2 million for this season, $19.6 million for 22-23 and $20.9 million for 23-24. That final season is fully non-guaranteed, unless Gordon's team wins the NBA Finals in 2022 or 2023.

This season Gordon has averaged 14.9 points on 50.5% shooting from the field, including 45.5% from behind the arc. He's also stayed relatively healthy, appearing in 38 of Houston's 45 games.

Rockets Suspend Kevin Porter Jr., Christian Wood One Game Apiece

Jan 3, 2022 2:45 PM

The Houston Rockets have suspended Kevin Porter Jr. and Christian Wood for Monday's game due to their behavior surrounding Saturday's loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Neither Porter nor Wood played in the second half of the Rockets' loss to the Nuggets, which included Porter leaving the arena after a halftime locker room confrontation with assistant coach John Lucas.

Wood was benched to start Saturday's game and appeared to pout over Stephen Silas' punishment for him failing to show up for the team's daily COVID-19 testing, which caused the team's shootaround to be delayed.

Wood showed little inclination to check into Saturday's game when Silas called him.
