Reggie Honored To Be Considered By Pacers For Management Role

Aug 24, 2011 11:54 AM

Reggie Miller recently commented on rumors that he would be a candidate to join the Pacers' front office. Herb Simon is reportedly considering adding Miller to the club in a management position.

After playing my entire 18-year career and spending the better part of my adult life affiliated with the Pacers, I’m honored to be mentioned as someone Mr. Simon, whom I respect a great deal, would consider for an important role within the organization. I have had no formal discussions or meeting at this time with Mr. Simon or Pacers management.

Stephenson Working On Development Of Point Guard Skills

Aug 22, 2011 1:16 AM

Lance Stephenson hopes to sign an overseas deal during the lockout, but is working on his game in Indianapolis regardless.

"The biggest thing with him is trying to improve his handles so he can become more of a true point guard," said Ed Schilling, who runs a basketball academy where Stephenson trains. "I think he can be a solid scoring guard, but in order for him to have more of an impact, I think it has to be as a point guard because his size (6-5, 210) and strength can allow him to be special there."

Stephenson Finding It Difficult To Not Communicate With Pacers' Staff

Aug 22, 2011 1:14 AM

Lance Stephenson is the type of player that may be hurt by the inability for front office executives and coaches to communicate with him during the NBA's lockout.

"It's very hard not being able to talk to those guys," Stephenson said. "I like to keep in contact with everybody so I can show them how hard I'm working to be one of the best players on the team and help the team win."

Stephenson is living in Indianapolis instead of his native New York.

"There are too many temptations to hang out and get off track back at home," said Stephenson. "It's all about basketball while living here."

Reggie Rarely Seen Around Pacers Since Retirement

Aug 21, 2011 2:35 AM

While Reggie Miller remains a fan favorite with the Pacers, his presence around the team has been a rarity since retiring in May of 2005.

Miller hasn’t been seen much around Conseco Fieldhouse since he retired, according to sources.

"I’ve only seen Miller at the fieldhouse three times since he walked off the court in May 2005," writes Mike Wells. "Once for a TNT game, his jersey retirement and during his documentary premiere."

Miller's name was first floated as a potential front office candidate last week.

Sources: Morway Unlikely To Replace Bird

Aug 18, 2011 11:21 AM

As Reggie Miller emerges as a possible candidate to replace Larry Bird in the Pacers' front office under the guidance of a returned Donnie Walsh, the future of David Morway becomes interesting.

Morway has the title of general manager and would like the opportunity to replace Bird, but sources say that it is an unlikely scenario.

Former Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard is the team's director of player personnel, but sources say owner David Simon was ambivalent about his hiring.

Pacers Pushing Reggie Miller To Seek Front Office Position

Aug 18, 2011 11:17 AM

The Pacers are pushing Reggie Miller to seek a job in their front office.

Owner Herb Simon believes the proclamations from Larry Bird that this will be his final season as team's president and is seeking opinions on how they believe Miller would succeed in the role.

“He’s going to look hard at this, if it’s presented in the right way,” says one source.

Simon hopes Donnie Walsh would be willing to return to mentor Miller.

“Herb really wants that to happen,” says a league official with close ties to Miller and Walsh.

Danny Granger has no interest in playing overseas during the NBA's lockout.

"It's not the NBA," said Granger. "If you can make the same amount of money overseas that you make in the NBA, it’s better for you to go."

Granger had previously expressed an openness to playing overseas.

Stephenson Looking For Overseas Contract To Gain Experience

Aug 3, 2011 11:31 AM

Lance Stephenson's agent is trying to negotiate an overseas contract for his client.

Agent Al Ebanks wants Stephenson to get experience because his NBA resume consists of a mere 114 minutes in 12 games.

"Going overseas is important based on the fact that there's no end in sight to the lockout," Ebanks said. "Lance wants to stay in shape. The holdup is that we're working on a clause that the minute the lockout is lifted, he can go back to the NBA. He's worked his entire life to play in the NBA."

"The biggest thing with him is trying to improve his handles so he can become more of a true point guard," said Ed Schilling, who runs a basketball academy where Stephenson is training. "I think he can be a solid scoring guard, but in order for him to have more of an impact, I think it has to be as a point guard because his size (6-5, 210) and strength can allow him to be special there."

The Pacers expect Stephenson to compete for a rotation spot in a backcourt that has Collison, Paul George, A.J. Price, George Hill and Brandon Rush.

"I'm going to continue working hard, like every day is my last day so when the lockout is over, it's an easy transition back for me," Stephenson said. "Last year was a learning experience. Now I want to prove to the team that I'm physically and mentally ready to help us win games."
