D'Angelo Russell On Signing Extension With Minnesota: Hell Yeah

Jul 14, 2022 2:13 PM

D'Angelo Russell had a bit of an up-and-down season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Russell's scoring was down, but his assists were up. The Wolves made the playoffs for the first in several years, but Russell was benched down the stretch of their first-round loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Still, Russell wants to be in Minnesota long-term. When asked if he wants a contract extension with the Wolves before next season, Russell made it clear he does.

“Hell yeah,” Russell said. “Obviously every player wants an extension, and you want to be in a position to do that.”

On the Timberwolves side, they are excited to see how Russell runs an offense featuring the double-big lineup of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, along with burgeoning star Anthony Edwards. Minnesota coach Chris Finch said the different dynamic Gobert brings to the offense should help open things up for Russell too.

“We know how well D-Lo plays with a dive big, something that we’ve not been able to maximize yet,” Finch said after Gobert’s press conference.

Wolves Refused To Include Jaden McDaniels In Rudy Gobert Deal

Jul 3, 2022 12:43 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves refused to include Jaden McDaniels in any trade package for Rudy Gobert, sources told Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Danny Ainge reportedly pushed hard for the Wolves to include McDaniels in the deal, with the Jazz initially asking for McDaniels, four first-rounders, multiple picks swaps, and second round picks.

The Wolves would eventually give up Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Leandro Bolmaro, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Walker Kessler, in addition to four draft picks, in the deal.

The Wolves also reportedly inquired about a trade for Kevin Durant, though the Nets were asking for established All-Stars plus picks in return.
