Jerry Colangelo Asks For Support From 76ers' Fans

Mar 30, 2016 2:39 PM

Jerry Colangelo talked about the need for fan support in a two-minute video released by the Philadelphia 76ers.

"I can't overemphasize how important fan support is to a franchise," Colangelo said. "I'm asking you to continue to support this franchise. It's very, very important for us at this critical time. There's only one way to go and that's up. And it's going to be fun building it."

The 76ers have ranked in the bottom three in attendance over the last three seasons.

Colangelo noted that he believes general manager Sam Hinkie and the Sixers, with as many as four first-round picks in the June 23 draft, close to $60 million in salary-cap space and the potential to add a healthy Joel Embiid and Dario Saric to next year's roster, "have a bright, bright future."

"We're watching young players develop," Colangelo said. "We're anticipating a lot of good things to happen in the very near future. If the stars are aligned and you have just a little bit of luck, we could turn this thing around much faster, much quicker than people seem to believe it's going to take."

Mar 27, 2016 5:59 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers has called up Christian Wood from the Delaware 87ers and signed him to a 10-day contract.

Wood has appeared in 32 games with the Sevens this season, averaging a team-high nine rebounds, as well as 17 points on 53% shooting in 29 minutes per game.

Wood, who went undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft, signed with the 76ers last September 14. He has appeared in 14 career NBA games with the Sixers, averaging four points and two rebounds per game. Wood registered career-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds on November 13 at Oklahoma City.

In a related move, the team has waived Sonny Weems.

76ers Interested In Drafting Kris Dunn

Mar 27, 2016 1:34 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers are interested in drafting Kris Dunn in June.

Philadelphia is still looking for their long-term solution at point guard.

The 76ers could also pursue a trade for a point guard as they did at the deadline for Dennis Schroder and Jeff Teague, or in free agency.

Mar 27, 2016 1:32 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers offered Ish Smith, Nik Stauskas and a protected first round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Dennis Schroder at the trade deadline.

Ish Smith Would Like To Re-Sign With 76ers

Mar 27, 2016 1:30 PM

Ish Smith would like to re-sign with the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason.

The 76ers let Smith go last offseason and he was eventually re-acquired in a December trade.

"Eventually, I will have to pray about that and figure it out," Smith said. "But if it's a good situation, and stuff like that, you can't be like, man, I just want to start. You got to humble yourself. If you are meant to start and you are meant to be an all-star, it will happen."

The Sixers had lost 30 of their first 31 games before Smith returned. They went 6-9 in the first 15 games after his arrival.

Smith is expected to receive far more interest in free agency this offseason.

"Listen, I would be thrilled to have Ish back," Brett Brown said. "He's done everything and then some. As we all know, it's a volatile world that we live in. There are draft picks. There are trades. There's all the stuff that we know.

"But he's done everything that I have asked of him and then some. And I'm just personally fond of him."

76ers Could Look To Trade Jahlil Okafor In Offseason

Mar 27, 2016 1:17 PM

If Joel Embiid is healthy this summer, the belief is the Philadelphia 76ers will try to trade Jahlil Okafor this summer. If he isn't, the 76ers will have to choose between Okafor and Nerlens Noel.

Okafor and Embiid are an unlikely pairing as they both will have liabilities defending athletic power forwards.

The Boston Herald had reported that the Sixers had a deal in place to trade Okafor to the Boston Celtics at the Feb. 18 trade deadline.

Okafor and Noel have struggled to coexist as well.

Nerlens Noel Will Continue Working On Jumper In Offseason

Mar 24, 2016 7:51 PM

Nerlens Noel would like to expand his offensive game to include mid-range jumpers.

"I know where I am at, and I know where I have to get to," Noel said. "I know I will get there, and I know I will have the drive to continue to work through the offseason, especially this one, being a major one [for development.]"

Noel is shooting 52.3 percent from the field, which ranked 12th in the NBA before Thursday's league matchups. However, he's shooting just 27 percent from 10 feet out to the three-point line.

"I think I've taken some good shots," Noel said. "They just haven't fallen. So it's just a matter of keep putting up those shots and staying with it."

Noel plans on spending a lot of the summer working on his jumper.

"I just really want to be with him 70 to 80 percent of the summer just working on my body, because he's really one of the best at it," Noel said of Todd Wright, Philadelphia's head of strength and conditioning. "I think I can have a crazy summer of just building everything on my body and being a lot more explosive with him."

Joel Embiid To Be Held Out Of Summer League

Mar 20, 2016 12:35 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers allowed Joel Embiid to delay his most recent operation from late June until August 18th because he wanted to enjoy himself for more of the summer.

The 76ers don't plan on allowing Embiid play in Summer League.

If Embiid had undergone the operation at the end of June, it would be a full 12 months until the start of this year's Summer League.

"If this guy is healthy, it would only make sense to play in the summer league — just to get the groundwork down and the defensive rotations," said one source. "If you're the organization, I would want to see early how he holds up."

"All of this pressure is going to be on him to perform," said another source. "He's the face of the franchise. Why wouldn't you get him out in Vegas against rookies and first- and second-year players who don't play a lot, or fringe guys?"

At the time, it was reported that Embiid delayed the surgery to seek more opinions and also to consult with Kevin Durant as he also underwent multiple surgeries on his foot.

Embiid has had multiple surgeries on his right foot.

Aspetar is a world-renowned facility, which serves as the official sports medicine partner of the French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain.

Embiid had bone-graft surgery to repair the navicular bone in his right foot in August.
