Hawks, Bulls, Kings Preparing To Use Cap Space For Trades Of Bad Contracts

Jun 28, 2018 8:27 PM

The Atlanta Hawks, Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings have signaled they plan on using their prized cap space to take on bad salary and extra draft picks. Teams could be looking to decrease their luxury tax bill or to create cap space.

The decision from the Kings is interesting considering they don't own their first round draft pick this season as part of their trade with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Hawks and Bulls are embarking on multi-year rebuilds.

Bulls Had Interest In Trading Up For Marvin Bagley III, Jaren Jackson

Jun 22, 2018 12:01 PM

The Chicago Bulls stayed at No. 7 in the 2018 NBA Draft and selected Wendell Carter Jr.

But the Bulls tried to trade up for Marvin Bagley III and Jaren Jackson.

Sources say the Bulls' efforts never got close. The Bulls did discuss trades with both the Atlanta Hawks at No. 3 and Memphis Grizzlies at No. 4.

The Bulls didn't want to sacrifice future first round picks to move up, or take on the contract of Chandler Parsons.

The Bulls privately had hoped the Kings would become enamored with Michael Porter Jr., dropping Bagley to a slot from which the Bulls could possibly trade up and acquire Bagley.

Kings Expected To Take Marvin Bagley At No. 2

Jun 21, 2018 4:32 PM

The Sacramento Kings appear to have internally decided upon Marvin Bagley with the No. 2 overall pick.

The Kings have also taken strong looks at Luka Doncic and Michael Porter Jr. with their selection.

The Phoenix Suns are expected to take Deandre Ayton at No. 1.

"Bagley and a healthy Harry Giles, who has secretly looked great, can give the Kings a strong 1-2 big man punch for years," writes Marc J. Spears.

Both Bagley and Giles are represented by agent Jeff Schwartz.
