Parker's Return 'Getting Close'

Nov 25, 2008 10:23 AM

The Spurs got Manu Ginobili back on Monday night and could have Tony Parker back in the lineup soon, as well.

Parker has missed eight games with a sprained ankle, and there is no definitive timetable for his return yet.

"He's getting close," Coach Gregg Popovich said of Parker. "It's not going to be three weeks. It's not going to be two weeks. It will probably be sooner than that."

Parker was the team's leading scorer, 27.4 points per game, before he suffered the ankle injury.

Nov 25, 2008 4:48 AM

Manu Ginobili was back in uniform for the first time this season on Monday night, scoring 12 points in 11 minutes to help San Antonio to a 94-81 win in Memphis, the Associated Press is reporting.

I felt pretty good about it," said Ginobili. "I didn't rush it a lot. I took my time, found the open seam, made a couple of shots. I wasn't thinking about a great game on my first one, so I'm happy with what I did."

Manu Will Return Against Memphis

Nov 24, 2008 4:27 PM

Spurs' guard Manu Ginobili will return on Monday night against the Grizzlies after missing the first 12 games of the season with an ankle injury.

"It's great to hear," Ginobili said. "It's been enough time."

San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich announced the decision after the team's morning shootaround. It is unknown how many minutes Ginobili will play against Memphis.

"I'm going to be out of shape, a little slower," said Ginobili. "But those are things you only get from playing. I feel like it works better for me getting 10 minutes of playing time than (spending) 20 minutes on a treadmill."

Popovich 'Not Sure' When Ginobili Will Debut

Nov 24, 2008 10:00 AM

Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich isn't exactly sure when guard Manu Ginobili will make his season debut.

Ginobili went through another practice on Sunday but isn't likely to play against the Grizzlies on Monday night.

"He's getting more and more ready every day," Popovich said. "Exactly when he plays, I'm not sure."

Ginobili has yet to play while recovering from offseason surgery on his left ankle, and said earlier this week he would lobby Popovich to let him suit up against Memphis.

Nov 22, 2008 9:50 AM

Manu Ginobili could return to the floor next week, earlier than expected after he had surgery on his left ankle in September.

Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich would not specify Ginobili's expected return, but he did say the guard has recovered quicker than expected.

"When he's ready, that's when he's going to play," Popovich said. "And, right now, he's not ready."

McDyess' Focus On Cavs Or Pistons

Nov 19, 2008 7:24 AM

After losing close to $9 million in the buyout with the Denver Nuggets, forward Antonio McDyess is believed to be looking at Cleveland, San Antonio, and Boston in addition to his former team the Pistons, Ian Thomsen from Sports Illustrated is reporting.

"There are three other situations we're discussing right now and sifting through," says Andy Miller, McDyess' agent. "All are teams that have significant midlevel space, either partial or in total for him.

"If we were to take a minimum offer, it would be with Detroit. There is no other offer for the minimum that we would consider. His comfort level, his familiarity -- there are many factors that would make him want to go back to Detroit."
