Nick Nurse Commends Kawhi Leonard's Leadership

Nov 26, 2018 9:29 AM

Nick Nurse commended the leadership of Kawhi Leonard following critical comments by Gregg Popovich.

“He just did a few little things in training camp, as far as getting some guys to go to the gym with him early. He opened up one of his shooting times pre-game to let (in) another guy that didn’t feel he was getting enough time ... Just some little, I think, neat things that say a lot about a guy,” Nurse said. “He does it quietly, but they’re leadership things to me.”

Leonard said he had heard about Popovich’s comments, but hadn’t read them.

“It’s just funny to me because I don’t know if he’s talking about last year or not, but I guess when when you stop playing they forget how you lead,” he said. “Other than that, it doesn’t matter. I’m here with the Raptors and I’m going to focus on this season and not what’s going on on the other side.”

Gregg Popovich: Kawhi Leonard Wasn't A Leader For Spurs

Nov 26, 2018 9:27 AM

Gregg Popovich spoke candidly about Kawhi Leonard when asked about the importance of Patty Mills' leadership following their trade of Leonard and the retirement of Manu Ginobili.

"Kawhi was a great player, but he wasn't a leader or anything," Popovich said. "Manu and Patty were the leaders. Kawhi's talent will always be missed, but that leadership wasn't his deal at that time. That may come as he progresses, but Manu and Patty filled that role last year, and LaMarcus [Aldridge] came a long way in that regard also."

Leonard became distant with the organization following the reveal of his quadriceps issue before training camp in 17-18.

Pau Gasol Won't Consider Retirement Until 2020 At Earliest

Nov 15, 2018 9:51 AM

The future of Pau Gasol with the San Antonio Spurs beyond the current season is a mystery. Gasol has a partially guaranteed deal for 19-20 with the Spurs only obligated to pay $6.7 million of his $16 million salary.

Even if the Spurs decline their option, Gasol is not ready to consider retirement.

“In two summers, I might think about it a little more,” Gasol said. “It might be an option then, maybe. And maybe not because I love what I do. I work my ass off to do what I do at this stage, to keep up with the pace of the game and the progress and the development of the game today. I take pride in that. That’s what makes me who I am.”

Gasol is currently moving around in a walking boot as he’s recovering from what the Spurs are labeling “left foot soreness.”
