Oct 31, 2008 4:59 PM

The Jazz will not pick up the third-year option on the contract of guard Morris Almond, who spent a majority of last season in the NBDL.

Almond said he was told by Utah GM Kevin O'Connor that the team would not exercise the option, worth $1.157 million, to bring him back for the 2009-10 season.

"I've seen that coming for a while," Almond said, who added that the team has been trying to trade him in recent weeks.

Kirilenko Will Remain On Utah's Bench

Oct 21, 2008 4:54 PM

Even with point guard Deron Williams out for two weeks with a sprained ankle, Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan will not move former All-Star Andrei Kirilenko off the bench and into the starting lineup.

Sloan has started C.J. Miles at forward, with Kirilenko coming off the bench this preseason.

"I hope that works out," said Sloan. "Andrei's played awfully well coming off the bench.

"I think he's made those guys (other Jazz subs) better," Sloan added. "I think he's made those guys a little more comfortable playing the game, and the way he played in the game (Saturday night at Chicago) was really refreshing, because he was playing against a bigger guy, and that puts a lot of pressure on the bigger guy to have to play him."

Deron To Undergo MRI On Monday

Oct 20, 2008 8:21 AM

Jazz point guard Deron Williams is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his sprained left ankle on Monday.

General Manager Kevin O'Connor said that the test will help the team determine how long the Olympian will be sidelined with the injury.

Williams was taken by wheelchair to the locker room and left the arena on crutches after suffering the injury against the Bulls on Saturday night.

"When you see how hard he's worked this summer and you see how he's prepared himself to play this season, and he's in tip-top shape and you just hate to see him go down," Ronnie Price said of Williams.
