Agent Explains Why Fesenko Left National Team

Aug 25, 2009 7:17 AM

Kyrylo Fesenko's agent is denying reports that his client left the Ukraine national team on bad terms.

The media reports were "a little misreported" agent Stu Lash told the Deseret News.

Reports indicated that Fesenko left the Ukraine team in the middle of a tournament earlier this month because the center was disgruntled and may have had a disagreement with the team's coach.

"It was positive," Lash said of Fesenko's time with the national team. "I think one thing it gave him was an opportunity to be back home and play and build his confidence up more than anything. (It was) all in all a good experience for him."

Lash claims that the departure was a mutual decision.

"He had a family thing to attend to and the team was playing some younger players, so it was kind of mutually agreed upon," Lash said. "And just with his schedule, wanting to get back here and getting ready for the (NBA) season, it was something we had kind of spoken about ahead of time."

O'Connor Happy With Where Jazz Stand

Aug 23, 2009 11:04 AM

Jazz top executive Kevin O'Connor is happy with where the teams stands heading into the 2009-10 season.

"We have a good core, from an asset standpoint," O'Connor told the Salt Lake Tribune. "When Carlos was hurt last season, we started four players who were under 25 and we think those players are going to get better. ...

"We would like to get longer and we would like to get more athletic. But those kind of players are hard to find, especially when you've been drafting where we have been drafting."

O'Connor is entering his 11th season in Utah.

Despite reports to the contrary, Fesenko is not believed to be injured.

Fesenko had faced criticism in his home country for skipping national team duty the previous two years to play in summer league.

Riley Didn't Like Boozer's Posturing

Aug 5, 2009 3:14 PM

Heat president Pat Riley told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that he wasn't comfortable with comments Carlos Boozer made last month about his desire to play in Miami.

"I wasn't really comfortable with it," Riley said.

"I really don't know what kind of agreement that he and Utah have," Riley added. "We have had conversations about a number of things, but there hasn't been anything really, at all, nothing, about a trade for Carlos Boozer."

Riley added that the team would have been more bold had they landed free-agent forward Lamar Odom, who ended up re-signing with the Lakers.

"Then," he said, "I would have thought differently about some of the other moves, lateral moves for one year."

Aug 4, 2009 4:39 PM

The Heat and Jazz have the dubious distinction of being the only NBA teams not to add a veteran this offseason.

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel compiled a team-by-team list of veteran acquisitions.

Miami had been linked to Lamar Odom, who re-signed with the Lakers, and is still believed to have interest in Jamaal Tinsley.
