Donovan Mitchell On Trade Talk: I'll Think About That In A Week

Apr 29, 2022 10:05 AM

The Utah Jazz season ended in disappointment with a first round loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Almost immediately after the Game 6 loss, speculation started about Utah's future, especially with star guard Donovan Mitchell.

When asked if he wants to stay with the Jazz, Mitchell initially responded "Yeah, I do." When pressed about rumors involving him asking for a trade, Mitchell expanded his thoughts.

"My mindset is to win. Like I said, right now, I'm not looking at (asking for a trade). For me, I just want to win, yo. This hurts. Like I said, I’ll think about it in a week and go from there, but right now, I’m not really thinking about any of that."

Mitchell just completed the first year of a five-year max deal. He has four more years under contract, with the final season in 25-26 being a player option.

An updated indictment said that Dooling illegally received around $350,000.

Each player made illegal claims that ranged between $65,000 and $420,000, according to the earlier October indictment.

The Jazz, currently down 3-2 in their playoff series against the Mavs, placed Dooling on paid administrative leave.

Donovan Mitchell Addressed Teammates Following 'Same S---' Comments

Apr 18, 2022 5:43 PM

Donovan Mitchell privately addressed his Utah Jazz teammates following his "it's the same s---" comment after they blew a big second half lead to the Los Angeles Clippers, a source tells Sam Amick of The Athletic.

“It’s the same s---,” Mitchell told reporters after the game. “This is, literally, the same.”

Mitchell's comment was widely viewed as defeatist, but he insisted that he wasn't giving up on the Jazz.

Despite their regular season success, the Jazz have not advanced to the Conference Finals with their current group. This season, the Jazz jumped out to a 28-10 start but went 21-23 from Jan. 5 until the end of the season.

Mitchell has three more seasons remaining on his contract with the Utah Jazz before he can become a free agent.

Mavericks vs Jazz Odds, NBA Playoff Picks & Series Predictions

Apr 15, 2022 8:58 AM

The Dallas Mavericks may have to begin the 2022 NBA Playoffs without the chief reason they got there. Luka Doncic strained a calf in the regular-season finale and there is no timetable for his return.

That’s horrible news for the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference as they prepare to host Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and the rest of the No. 5 Utah Jazz in Game 1 on Saturday. Ahead of Game 1, Bookies.com breaks down the series and makes our NBA pick to back on betting apps.

Jazz vs Mavericks Odds

Market Odds
To Win Series Jazz (-280), Mavs (+210)
Total Games Played 4 (+400), 5 (+310), 6 (+190), 7 (+200)

Odds via DraftKings and accurate as of publication.

Jazz vs Mavericks Betting Tips

Home Cookin’: There is, of course, a built-in homecourt advantage for the higher seed. Based on the regular season, that could come into play here. The Mavericks and Jazz played five times this season, with the home team winning all four matchups. Utah won its home games by 5 and 4 points, Dallas took two at home by 14 and 8.

Covering Side: The teams may have split the wins, but not the covers. The Mavericks covered in all four matchups this season. They were -3.5 and -1 at home, while getting 6.5 and 13 points in Salt Lake City. Game 1 opened at Dallas -1 but the line moved 5.5 points at betting sites with the uncertainty over Doncic’s availability.

Stepping Up: Some playoff teams pound the lesser teams on the schedule, some come through in the marquee matchups. The Mavericks are the latter, with a whopping 22-10 ATS mark (68.7%) against teams with above-.550 win percentages. The Jazz? They’re 10-16-2 (34.5%).

Jazz vs Mavericks Picks

The lines on betting apps flipped dramatically after Doncic’s injury. He may be ready sooner than later or miss the entire series. It makes for a challenging series pick. NBA betting oddsmakers have the Jazz at -280 to win the series and the Mavs at +210.

Dallas was 8-9 without Doncic, but it’s not as rosy as that. Against playoff-level competition, they were 0-5. Against teams in the play-in bracket, 1-2, and 7-2 vs. non-playoff teams. All five losses were by single digits, showing the Mavs can compete. But when it comes to winning, they haven’t proven anything.

Statistically, the Jazz have the makeup of a team with the potential to make a deep run in the NBA Playoffs. If they can get one of the opening games at Dallas – or both – Utah can get out of this series.

Our Pick: Take the Jazz to win the series at -280

Jazz vs Mavericks Schedule

Game 1: April 16, Utah at Dallas, 1 p.m. ET, ESPN

Game 2: April 18, Utah at Dallas, 8:30 p.m. ET, NBATV

Game 3: April 21, Dallas at Utah, 9 p.m. ET, NBATV

Game 4: April 23, Dallas at Utah, 4:30 p.m. ET, TNT

Games 5-7: TBD if necessary

Quin Snyder Not On Hot Seat With Jazz, Has Yet To Accept Extension Offer

Apr 11, 2022 1:54 PM

The Utah Jazz have offered Quin Snyder a contract extension in the recent past and he has so far elected not to sign it, which has led to some speculation that he could become available.

"Quin Snyder is not on the hot seat," said Marc Stein on a Sunday Greenroom. "I think this needs to be clarified. As I reported recently, Quin would be a coveted candidate for both San Antonio, at whatever point Gregg Popovich decides to step down. He would certainly be a coveted candidate for the Lakers.

"I want to make sure this is clear because I don't think it has come across clearly even after I've written about this multiple times, this is not Utah dissatisfaction with Quin Snyder. How many years left on his contract is somewhat unclear. He is not a coaching free agent after this season. Whether he has one or two years left on his current deal remains a bit murky because the Jazz have never come out and publicly confirmed exactly what it is.

"Included in my recent reporting about Quin is that the Jazz have tried to extend him further. They have offered him an extension beyond the one or two years left on his current deal and based on my reporting, he has not accepted that extension yet. I don't know if he's completely ruled it out, but to this point, Utah's efforts to extend him further, the key word further, Quin has not acted upon that yet.

"I think that is what has led some of the discussion and sparked some of the hope from some of the other teams interested in him, that maybe he's the one who wants to move on after a pretty long and successful run in Utah."

Stein added that the Jazz want Snyder to extend as head coach.

Jazz Converting Trent Forrest To Standard Contract

Apr 10, 2022 11:15 AM

The Utah Jazz are converting guard Trent Forrest to a standard contract. Forrest has spent the first two seasons of his career on a Two-Way deal with Utah.

This season, Forrest has developed into a rotation regular for the Jazz. As Utah has regularly rested veteran Mike Conley, Forrest has often played backup point guard minutes.

In 60 games (six starts), the 6-foot-4 guard has averaged 3.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 12.8 minutes per contest. The Jazz also like Forrest's size and ability to switch onto bigger players on defense.
