Klay Thompson: I Would Love To Play For Team USA In Olympics

Sep 21, 2019 1:36 PM

Klay Thompson joined Golden State Warriors teammates Steph Curry and Draymond Green in expressing his desire to play for Team USA in next year's Olympics.

“I would love to play (for) Team USA. That is the plan. I would love to be on the Olympic team," Thompson told Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic.

Thompson and Curry played together in the 2014 World Cup, which Thompson said was a critical bonding experience for the duo.

Thompson echoed Gregg Popovich and Kobe Bryant's sentiment that world basketball will continue to be a challenge for the U.S.

“It was hard to watch us lose. Those guys, they sacrificed their summers for that. I’m not going to dog them for losing, though. The world is good.”

Jerry Colangelo: USA Has To Get Act Together For Olympics

Sep 12, 2019 3:55 PM

The United States had more than 50 players who were part of the World Cup plan. They only cut two after the first week of training camp with the other three dozen dropping out on their own.

"We're going to let the dust settle, let things depress a little bit," Jerry Colangelo said. "Obviously I'm always thinking ahead, which means what's going to take place, and it's going to happen fast and soon because we just have to get our act together for the Olympics."

The United States will go back to the drawing board ahead of the Olympics in Tokyo next summer.

"Going forward for USA Basketball, we're going to need the cooperation of teams, agents and then there has to be communication with players one-on-one to solidify those commitments," Colangelo said. "I am going to be anxious to see how many players reach out early to indicate that they wish and want and desire to play.

"But I'll make this statement: It's as much about maybe who we don't want as much as who we want."

Gregg Popovich After Team USA Loss: It's The Best French Team I Have Seen

Sep 12, 2019 2:42 AM

Gregg Popovich praised France's balance after their 89-79 win over Team USA in the quarterfinals of the FIBA World Cup.

"It's the best French team that I have seen because they play at both ends of the court. It's not just an offensive team that executes well. It's not just a couple of guys on their own. They play at the defensive end and are physical. Individually play well, defensively as a group: switching, weak side, rebounding. They fit together really well - all the parts fit, they're deep," said Popovich following the loss.

Popovich put the loss in perspective, adding that "any loss hurts and in this situation, it hurts more. But life goes on...we're all grown, we all have families and lives, and life will go on."

Team USA plays Serbia in the consolation bracket.
