Isaiah Thomas Staying In Draft

May 9, 2011 5:29 PM

After declaring for the NBA draft March 31, Washington junior Isaiah Thomas left the door open that he might return to school when he didn't hire an agent.

That door slammed shut today when the Husky guard told coach Lorenzo Romar he plans to remain in the draft. The deadline to withdraw from the draft and return to school is today.

"When I spoke with Isaiah, in his mind he felt this is what he was ready to do," Romar said minutes ago. "He just felt he would show why he'd be worthy of being drafted higher. He has a high level of confidence in what he can get done."

DeAndre Liggins heard all he needed to convince him that the time was right to jump to the NBA.

The University of Kentucky guard will forgo his senior season and remain in the NBA draft, the school announced Sunday night.

“Coach (John Calipari) encouraged me to come back for my senior season, but based on the feedback I got from NBA personnel, I felt it was in the best interests of me and my family to stay in the draft,” Liggins said in a release. “I learned a lot in my three years here at Kentucky, and I appreciate all the support I got from the people at UK as well as the Big Blue Nation.”

The 6-foot-6 Liggins is known for his strong perimeter defense. He received Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America honors and was named the Yahoo! Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Wildcats with 46 steals. He also had 28 blocked shots.

Kawhi Leonard Signs With Agent, Will Remain In Draft

May 6, 2011 10:56 PM

Kawhi Leonard signed with Brian Elfus of Impact Sports Management, a firm that is well entrenched in the NFL and is beginning to grow its client base in basketball.

Its biggest basketball name is Charlotte Bobcats forward Tyrus Thomas, in his fifth NBA season after leaving Louisiana State following his freshman year.

SDSU coach Steve Fisher said he was consulted in the process and approved of the decision.

“I’ve known (Elfus) for a long time,” Fisher said. “Kawhi had three or four finalists that the family interviewed, and I felt none of them would be a bad choice. They did a good job.”
