The Los Angeles Lakers have spoken with representatives of Kevin Love and are planning a meeting for this week.

Love opted out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers to become a free agent. Love is widely expected to return to the Cavaliers.

Love played collegiately at UCLA and has been connected with the Lakers in the past during his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Boston Celtics would also like a meeting with Love, but sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski that the team is still awaiting word from his reps.

The San Antonio Spurs are discussing acquiring the non-guaranteed contract of Brendan Haywood from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Haywood's contract has a trade value of $10.5 million.

The Spurs have interest in trading away Tiago Splitter to create cap room in their pursuit of LaMarcus Aldridge. Patty Mills could also be dealt for the Spurs to create additional cap space. Boris Diaw is another potential trade candidate.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Milwaukee Bucks are interested in Iman Shumpert.

Shumpert will be a restricted free agent this offseason with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

LeBron James is known to be a big fan of Shumpert and his defense.

Shumpert was acquired in January from the New York Knicks.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Mike Miller has opted into his $2.8 million contract for the 2015-16 season, a league source told RealGM.

Miller had the deadline on his option Monday night.

A 15-year NBA veteran, Miller averaged 2.1 points and 13.5 minutes while playing 52 games last season. Miller had a rejuvenation in his return with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013-14, when he averaged 7.1 points and 45.9 percent three-point shooting.

For his career, Miller is an 11.3 points per game scorer, a positive voice in the locker room and versatile player in his prime. He has played for Orlando, Memphis, Minnesota, Washington, Miami and Cleveland.

Kevin Love may meet with other NBA teams in NBA free agency, but there is a growing belief across the league that he will back up his sentiments throughout the season and return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Sources close to Love have indicated that he will likely re-sign with the Cavs.

During this past season, at times Love consulted with teammates on whether he should lock into a long-term deal this summer or look for a shorter deal.

LeBron James will bypass his $21.5 million player option with the Cleveland Cavaliers and become a free agent on July 1, according to sources.

James intends to re-sign with the Cavaliers.

The Brooklyn Nets and San Antonio Spurs have interest in acquiring the rights to Sasha Kaun.

Kaun was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008 out of Kansas, but he's since been playing in Russia for CSKA Moscow.

Kaun would like to finally play in the NBA.

J.R. Smith has opted out of his $6.5 million deal for the 15-16 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources tell RealGM.

The Cavaliers and Smith have mutual interest in a return.

Smith was acquired by the Cavaliers in January from the New York Knicks.

Kevin Love has opted out of the final season of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers to become a free agent.

Love was widely expected to opt out this offseason as he can at least sign a one-plus-one contract.

Love's season ended in Game 4 of the first round with a dislocated shoulder.

The Portland Trail Blazers are expected to pursue Love in free agency if LaMarcus Aldridge decides to leave. The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are also planning on pursuing Love.

Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Cavaliers remain the frontrunner to sign Love to a long-term contract.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have repeatedly said they plan on re-signing Kevin Love this offseason. 

But executives around the NBA predict the Cavaliers will eventually agree upon a sign-and-trade involving Love. The Cavaliers would be able to recoup rotation players and picks by dealing Love, while also making their big man rotation make more sense.

For Love to be worthy of a max contract, Love needs to be a higher usage player as he was with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“LeBron (James) needs to have the ball so much for you to be as good as you can be, and you need to be very selective about the guys who get to have it when he doesn’t,” David Griffin said. “You cannot have too much ball dominance around him.”
