James Harden 'Not Sure' If He'll Unleash One-Legged, Step-Back 3 This Season

Aug 25, 2019 12:52 PM

James Harden addressed the viral videos of him shooting a one-legged, step-back 3 pointer in pick-up games, telling Tim MacMahon of ESPN that he wants to add something to his game every season.

"I'm always trying to be creative. I'm always trying to get better -- at basketball, life, businesswise...With basketball, you have to be creative. This is my 11th year, and every single year I want to get better. I don't want to stay the same. You've got to find ways to keep growing," Harden told MacMahon during his annual charity outing in Houston.

Harden added that while he's not sure if he's ready to showcase the new skill in a game, he wants his step-back to be his signature move.

"I'm not sure; it's something that I work on. But you know how Mike [Jordan] has his fadeaway and Dirk [Nowitzki] has his one-leg and [Kareem Abdul-Jabbar] had the sky hook, I want my step-back to be one of those moves that last forever."

James Harden: Media Narrative Impacted MVP Chances

Aug 22, 2019 2:40 AM

James Harden said that the MVP narratives were against him last season despite his record scoring numbers, in an interview with 97.9 The Box

“Once the media, they create a narrative about somebody from the beginning of the year, I think they just take that narrative and just run with it the entire year. I don’t want to get into details. All I can do is control what I can do, and I went out there and did what I was supposed to do at a high level," said Harden.

Harden, who finished second to Giannis Antetokounmpo in MVP voting, went on a run of 32 consecutive games scoring at least 30 points.

Harden instead turned the focus to winning an NBA title next season.

“People were tuned in to how many points I was going to score the next game. It was a thing. But I can’t control that. The only thing I can control is coming back next year and being better than I was, and winning a ‘chip.”
