Miles Refuses To Talk To Media, Will Let His Game Do The Talking

Aug 25, 2006 6:22 PM

Darius Miles will not be conducting any interviews with the media this summer.

"He plans to do his talking on the basketball court,'' said his agent, Jeff Wechsler.

Wechsler said Miles' knees are fine and that he has been working out, but at an undisclosed place that only he and the Blazers know of.

There was some other dialogue - ranging from Darius' immediate future with the club, to who is running the show at One Center Court, and about the position Miles finds himself entering training camp - but all that was sworn to off-the-record status.

Sexual Assault Report Involves Randolph, But He Is Not A Suspect

Aug 21, 2006 9:31 PM

Police confirmed Monday that a sexual assault report taken last week involves Portland Trail Blazers forward Zach Randolph, but he was not named as a suspect.

Sgt. Brian Schmautz, spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau, said he had gotten calls about the report last week but was unable to confirm them at the time.

He said the investigation was continuing with detectives interviewing potential witnesses to the Aug. 14 incident.

But Schmautz emphasized "the Police Bureau is not identifying Zach Randolph as a suspect in the criminal investigation."

Blazers' Patterson Comments (Lightly) On Miles And The GM Job

Aug 10, 2006 5:33 AM

Blazers' president and acting GM Steve Patterson is not tipping his hand.

"There's nothing on the burner right now," Patterson said.

Patterson would not comment on the rumor that originated in New York which has the Knicks trading Quentin Richardson to Portland in order to bring back disgruntled swingman Darius Miles.

"Darius is under contract, and he's a part of the team, and as long as he's a part of the team, he's part of the team," said Patterson.

Miles seemed to take an early leave from the Blazers last season, sleeping through a shootaround and dressing back into his street clothes during halftime of a game.

During his exit interview, Miles expressed to head coach Nate McMillan and the GM (at the time) John Nash that he did not want to return to Portland.

Meanwhile, with Paul Allen apparently set to retain ownership of the Blazers, there has not been any announcement on the naming of a new general manager in Portland.

NBA sources believe that the Blazers have not conducted a full-fledged search for a successor to the ousted Nash.  Therefore it is reasonable to expect that either Patterson or Kevin Pritchard will formally assume the head of basketball operations in Portland for the coming season.

"I'm not going to speculate," Patterson said. "When we have some news to report, we'll give you a buzz."

Back With Bucks, Skinner Bashes Blazers

Aug 7, 2006 10:27 PM

Brian Skinner says he's comfortable being back in Milwaukee after getting more than his share of rainy weather and "contagious" apathy in Portland at the end of last season.

Skinner, who was traded to the Bucks in a four-player deal July 31, sounded happy to be free from teammates in Portland who he said simply stopped trying.

"It's contagious, and it carried like wildfire throughout the whole team," Skinner said Monday. "Even players that were really dedicated and really wanted to be there, just made it seem like it was for naught."

"It's everything," Skinner said. "From the way you just sit down at the dinner table, to how you walk, you can just tell when a player [has] not really lost their passion, but just lost their initiative to go out and try to win. And it just goes through everything. It goes through everything and completely destroys a team."

Miles Is Isiah's Backup Plan

Aug 4, 2006 9:04 AM

According to sources, Isiah Thomas and the Knicks were close to acquiring Darius Miles last week in a trade for Quentin Richardson but instead opted to sign Jared Jeffries to an offer sheet.

If the Wizards elect to match Jeffries' offer sheet, Thomas is expected to turn his attention back to Miles.
