Parker Injured While Playing In France

Jul 27, 2009 7:20 AM

Spurs guard Tony Parker suffered a pair of injuries to his right leg during a collision with an opponent while playing for the French national team.

The incident took place on Friday night and according to French sports newspaper L'Equipe, Parker left on a crutch with sharp pain in his right thigh.

As the pain subsided in his thigh, his ankle began swelling up.

Parker said in a statement that the collision caused "a blow to my thigh, and my ankle also turned."

He described the MRI of his ankle as "reassuring," calling the injury "a minor sprain, without any ligament damage."

Free agent forward Fabricio Oberto will decide on an NBA team by next week, according to his agent.

The Wizards are favored to sign him, but the Spurs are an option as well.

The Wizards have offered Oberto their bi-annual exception, worth $1.99 million.

Udoka Is Still Waiting For Contract Offer

Jul 21, 2009 7:30 AM

A number of teams are interested in Ime Udoka, who has not been offered a new contract by the Spurs.

"We're talking to a lot of teams," agent Mark Bartelstein told the Oregonian. "I think within the week, there's a really good chance we'll probably do a deal."

There still appears to be a chance that Udoka could return to San Antonio, something the free-agent would prefer.

"We'll see what teams step up and make an offer," Udoka said. "Whoever comes up with the best offer and the best situation, that's what it will come down to."

Udoka had an inconsistent season, with Roger Mason Jr. stepping up in Manu Ginobili's absence.

"I had an inconsistent year and our team had an inconsistent year," Udoka said. "When you get (knocked) out in the first round, changes are gonna be made. That's just part of the deal, especially for a franchise like San Antonio, where championships are expected."

Jefferson Comes Clean On Wedding

Jul 16, 2009 9:55 AM

Richard Jefferson spoke candidly with the New York Post after the newspaper reported that he broke off his scheduled wedding.

Jefferson informed his fiance, Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols, of his decision via email.

"There was a lot of stress and tension in the relationship. We've been through a lot -- but we just couldn't continue," said Jefferson, sounding upset during a telephone interview.

"I'm not trying to buy her off," said Jefferson of the six-figure settlement he gave her.  "She has a lump sum to help her move on."

He added, "I've made my mistakes in this relationship, 100 percent. But at the end of the day, there were some people who were responsible for the demise of it."

He insisted a rumor he's gay had nothing to do with the breakup.

"I'm not gay," Jefferson said. "That couldn't be any further from the truth. I have nothing to hide."

Jefferson Cancels $2M Wedding At Last Minute

Jul 15, 2009 10:41 AM

Richard Jefferson cancels his posh Manhattan wedding at the 11th hour without even alerting some of the guests, The Post has learned.

Jefferson's decision to break off the wedding to former Nets' dancer Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols was so last-minute that some of his oblivious friends had already shown up last Saturday at the swank Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle for the $2 million wedding that never happened.

Jefferson dumped Nichols just before the weekend, according to sources.

The would-be bride was stunned, but "not entirely caught off-guard," by Jefferson's unsportsmanlike conduct, according to a family friend.

"She just wants to keep this as quiet as possible and move on. She's doing just fine," a Nichols family insider said.
