Raptors Have No Intention Of Dealing Bosh

Jan 30, 2010 10:40 AM

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo says that he has no intention of trading All-Star forward Chris Bosh.

"The calls are a lot less frequent, and it's a lot less focused on Bosh. Everybody starts with, 'Well, apparently you're not trading Bosh, so can we talk about so-and-so?' " Colangelo said.

"Our intention is, we're not going to move him, so we're not discussing a scenario (that includes Bosh)."

Earlier in the season, when Toronto was struggling, trade rumors involving Bosh started to heat up. However, over the last few dozen games, the Raptors have starred to click on the court.

Triano Downplays Bosh Rumors, Says People Love To 'Speculate'

Jan 29, 2010 3:07 PM

Raptors head coach Jay Triano is downplaying trade rumors involving Chris Bosh heading into next month's deadline.

Bosh can become an unrestricted free agent this summer and there has been speculation that Toronto might look to deal him if they don't feel he'll re-sign.

"I've talked to (general manager) Bryan Colangelo extensively and those rumors are just rumors," Triano said. "The rumors persist because of the quality of the names of guys who will be free agents at the end of the year.

"People love to speculate and when you can speculate about great names, it becomes more interesting."

DeRozan, Raptors Shocked By Rookie Challenge Snub

Jan 28, 2010 10:25 AM

DeMar DeRozan found out about his snug for the rookie challenge from Sonny Weems who burst into the training room where DeRozan was getting treatment for two sprained ankles and vented his own frustration at the snub.

DeRozan said he was "more confused than angry" about not being selected but he did use his Twitter account to share his initial feelings when he found it. DeRozan sent out the three-letter tweet "Wow".

"I've learned from other players, just keep it short and sweet," he said.

DeRozan said he will certainly be using this as motivation for the rest of the year.

"I don't get too frustrated because I've got an entire second half of the season to go," DeRozan said. "It's just a chance for me to show them that I should have got a mention here."

DeRozan will still participate in the dunk-off against Eric Gordon.

Reggie Evans Hopes To Return On Feb. 17

Jan 26, 2010 7:50 AM

Reggie Evans returned to full-contact practice with the Raptors on Monday for the first time in three months.

"Today was a fun day for me," he said. "I finally got to a good stepping stone. ... I've got some work to do."

Evans damaged ligaments in his left foot in an Oct. 14 preseason game.

"I love playing against Reggie. He only knows how to play one way and that's all out," Chris Bosh said. "I think it's good to have him back practicing. Once he gets in shape, I think he can really help us."

Evans hopes to make his regular-season debut for the club on Feb. 17, the first game after the All-Star break.

"When that time comes, it'll be a big day," he said.

Evans Targets Game After All-Star Break For Return

Jan 20, 2010 10:10 AM

Reggie Evans is targeting the first game after the All-Star break to make his 09-10 debut with the Raptors.

"That's my goal, the game after all-star," Evans said. "My spirit's real high. My energy is getting there. ... But don't congratulate me just yet."

On Tuesday, Evans said he was put through a workout that involved quick, random cutting and "a little sprinting."

He said the foot remains relatively "weak." But it's as strong as it has been since he suffered the injury in an Oct. 14 pre-season game.

Said the forward: "I've still got a little limp in it, but there's definitely progress. I'm telling my teammates it won't be long till I'm back in the lineup."

DeRozan Outlining Dunk-In Contest Plans

Jan 19, 2010 8:13 PM

Raptors rookie DeMar DeRozan is already beginning to plan for next month's Dunk-In Contest against Clippers guard Eric Gordon.

It was announced on Monday that Nate Robinson, Gerald Wallace and Shannon Brown will participate in the contest with DeRozan and Gordon fighting for the final spot.

"Sonny [Weems] thinks he's a better dunker than me so he thinks every piece of advice he gives me is great," DeRozan said of his teammate.

"That's my man so I'm going to listen to him and take his advice. He won the college dunk contest so he has a good enough resume to listen to."

Weems, along with veteran guard Jarrett Jack, will be among DeRozan's crew at All-Star Weekend in Dallas.

"Jarrett will be there and Sonny will be there so I might mess around and use both of them," DeRozan said of incorporating his teammates into the contest.

"Just going up throwing down dunks by yourself is so cliche now. You have to have a partner throwing some out of the stands or something like that."

Bosh 'Hasn't Been This Encouraged In A While'

Jan 19, 2010 11:28 AM

The Raptors are 10-3 over the past month, leaving Chris Bosh extremely optimistic.

"I haven't been this encouraged in a while," said Bosh on Monday. "Before it's been tough, not winning as many games and kind of leaving things on the table. But this year, we can really start pushing ourselves over .500 and see where we can get at by the end of the season."

"We're defending a lot better right now," Jay Triano said. "There's a purpose and attitude toward getting stops and we didn't have that earlier in the year. We were thinking more than we were reacting. Now, we're reacting and it's a lot easier for our guys."

In their past 13 games, the Raptors' defensive rating, points allowed per 100 possessions, is 104.

"My success depends on team success," Bosh said. "At this point, numbers don't really mean much. Leading up to all-star weekend, and after, it's about getting wins and making the playoffs and stuff like that."
