The injury to Reggie Evans may not be quite as bad as the team initially feared.
Jay Triano told reporters following Friday night's loss to Boston that X-rays had revealed that Evans had broken his right foot.
Evans underwent more tests in Toronto on Saturday and the team said a conclusive diagnosis and recovery timeline would be revealed on Sunday.
Raptors forward Reggie Evans broke his right foot in the team's loss to the Celtics on Friday night.
"The X-rays were positive," coach Jay Triano announced when he met the media. "I have no idea of a time line."
Evans is averaging 4.0 points and 12.1 rebounds for Toronto this season.
Jerryd Bayless is grateful for the opportunity he will receive with the Raptors to develop in the way of minutes he didn't receive with the Blazers and Hornets.
“I just want to be able to play basketball again, that’s the biggest thing,” Bayless said. “I want to grow with this team. I feel like the last couple of times I’ve been on teams that are already established and I’m coming in trying to fight my way on. Fighting just to get even 30 seconds in a game. Here I can grow with a team that is already good and still growing with a chance to be very special. It’s an opportunity people would die for.”
Jerryd Bayless is wearing No. 5 for the Raptors, though he could have worn the No. 4, which he donned for the Blazers.
Bosh wore No. 4 between 2003 and 2010 for Toronto.
“Didn’t even think about that,” Bayless said when asked if he chose not to wear No. 4 because of Bosh.
“Three plus two,” Bayless said, referring to the No. 32 jersey he briefly wore with the Hornets. “Fresh start.”
Toronto Raptors forward Ed Davis was assigned to the Erie BayHawks, the Raptors' NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment marks the fifth time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the first assignment for Davis, a rookie out of North Carolina.
Davis (6-10, 225) will join the BayHawks on a short-term rehabilitation and conditioning assignment. Davis has been cleared to resume game action after sustaining a meniscus tear in his right knee before the start of training camp. He will be placed on Toronto?s inactive list, but will remain on the team?s roster.
Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo says the five-player trade he swung with the Hornets over the weekend adds to the team's core and increases their financial flexibility.
Toronto swapped guards Jarrett Jack and Marcus Banks and center David Andersen with New Orleans for guard Jerryd Bayless and swingman Peja Stojakovic.
"It's pretty obvious this trade was made with the future in mind," Colangelo said. "If the last four years were building around Chris Bosh, then next four years are about building without Chris Bosh. This is a step in that direction."
Stojakovic's contract expires after this season and Colangelo said he has close to $25 million in expiring contracts.
The Raptors also have more than $12 million left on a trade exception that was part of Bosh's sign-and-trade deal with the Heat.
The Hornets and Raptors have agreed in principle on a five-player trade that would send Peja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless to the Raptors for Jarrett Jack, David Andersen and Marcus Banks, according to a source.
The trade was close to completion on Friday night, but had been delayed over the amount of cash New Orleans would send Toronto in the trade.
In order for the deal to pass under league rules, it actually would be executed as two separate trades to get around a restriction preventing Bayless from being included in a multi-player deal prior to Dec. 23 -- two months to the day after the Hornets acquired Bayless from the Trail Blazers.
The Hornets and Raptors are engaged in serious discussions on a five-player trade, according to sources.
Toronto would receive Peja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless, while Jarrett Jack, David Andersen and Marcus Banks would go to New Orleans.
The deal is currently held up over how much cash the Hornets will send as part of the deal.
The Raptors may finally have rookie forward Ed Davis on the floor at some point next week.
Davis injured his knee back in July and the 13th overall pick has yet to play a game for Toronto.
He switched from a bulky brace to a lighter one on Wednesday after going through his first full contact practice on Monday.
