Kirilenko To Return On Friday

Nov 24, 2006 11:22 AM

Andrei Kirilenko's sprained right ankle is no longer giving him any pain, so the Utah forward is slated to return to action on Friday versus the Lakers.

"I'll have to see Andrei play," Sloan said when asked what kind of role he will have in his return. "Maybe he's better coming off the bench. I don't know where he's at right now.

"His energy level seems to be pretty high right now," Sloan said. "He seems to want to work hard in practice, and that's important. [The extra playing time] has helped him, I think so."

Ronnie Brewer, who has been in the starting line-up as Kirilenko's replacement, may remain in the first five as the team's shooting guard.

Jazz GM: ''There Is Nobody Untradeable On The Team''

Nov 23, 2006 9:44 PM

Kevin O'Connor was recently asked by SI.com about the constant trade rumors surrounding Carlos Boozer.

"My job is to make the team better, and we as an organization have a history of not trying to trade people," said O'Connor. "We're not looking to move people, and patience is something that's important to us, because we think guys get better here. But if we had a situation that would improve our team, there is nobody untradeable on the team."

Kirilenko Back On Friday?

Nov 23, 2006 8:57 AM

Andrei Kirilenko ran all the drills on Wednesday, and said he feels ready to play. But the Jazz want him to wait until at least Friday to test his sprained right ankle, so he watched last night's win over the Kings in street clothes.

"No problems. I'm a little worried about game speed, because practice isn't same," Kirilenko said. "I played three-on-three today, feels good. But there's big difference. We only use one basket."

The Russian forward, who sprained his ankle Nov. 11 in Milwaukee and had sat out four games, all Utah victories, before Wednesday, said it will take a week or so to get back into game shape.

In this condition, he said he's concerned about disrupting the roll the 10-1 Jazz are on.

"They're playing better without me, so I'll just do dirty work," Kirilenko said with a grin. "I don't want to break their play right now, they're so good."

I Got A Raw Deal In T.O.: Araujo

Nov 21, 2006 4:33 AM

Rafael Araujo, who got a rough ride from fans in Toronto in two seasons of spotty play, is being treated normally by fans of the Utah Jazz, primarily because they know him, the ex-Brigham Young Cougar said.

"The fans (in Toronto) didn't know what I can do," Araujo said yesterday. "Here they know what I can do. I was a good player, I've been a good player and I just didn't have the right fair chance."

Araujo wouldn't bite when asked to expand on his opinion he didn't get a fair chance with the Raptors.

"I did my best there, I worked hard for two years," he said. "The coaching staff and the director (general manager) part, I couldn't control that."

Kirilenko Improving, Could Practice This Week

Nov 19, 2006 6:48 AM

The swelling has gone down in Andrei Kirilenko's right ankle, but the Russian is unlikely to play in Monday's home game against Toronto, Kevin O'Connor said Saturday.

"It's better. He can move around," said O'Connor, the team's senior vice president of basketball operations. "But he hasn't tried running yet."

The team hopes Kirilenko can return to practice sometime this week, but O'Connor said it's too early to make any predictions about whether he would accompany the team to Sacramento for Wednesday's game.

Kirlenko Leaves Game With Right Ankle Injury

Nov 12, 2006 12:29 AM

Forward Andrei Kirilenko left Utah's game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night in the second quarter with a sprained right ankle.

Kirilenko appeared to roll the ankle while vying for a loose ball on the left sideline with Milwaukee's Ersan Ilyasova. He quickly grabbed his right leg in pain and limped off the court to the Jazz bench, putting no pressure on the leg.

Redd scores 57 But Jazz Nip Bucks

Nov 12, 2006 12:20 AM

Michael Redd scored 57 points to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's franchise record, but Matt Harpring made a layup with 1.8 seconds left to give the Utah Jazz a 113-111 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night.

Redd scored 39 points in the second half and broke the franchise scoring record of 55 set by Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's career scoring leader, against the Boston Celtics on Dec. 10, 1971.

Redd made 18 of 32 field goals, going 6-of-12 from 3-point range and 15-of-17 on free throws.

Fisher Voted President Of NBAPA

Nov 11, 2006 1:03 PM

Derek Fisher has been elected as the new president of the NBA Players Association.

Fisher, who was Vice President, succeeds Antonio Davis as the players' chief liaison with the league, assuming Davis, who is not currently on an NBA roster, is retired.

The current CBA runs through 2011, so it is likely that his presidency will be very quiet and uneventful.
