Jazz: Redick And Foye 'As Good As Advertised'

May 30, 2006 9:26 PM

J.J. Redick and Randy Foye were two players that worked out for the Jazz on Tuesday.

"All those guys played hard," he said. "It was a nice workout. It's fun to watch guys when it looks like they're excited about playing." Asked about Redick, Sloan said, "He can play basketball."

"He showed an ability to shoot the ball and move his feet," said Jazz vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor. "He and Randy were as good as advertised."

Redick is excited about the possibility with joining former Blue Devil Carlos Boozer.  "I'm good friends with Deron Williams," he added.

Malone Pondering Front Office Career

May 30, 2006 4:04 AM

Since Karl Malone retired from the NBA in 2004, he has received offers from multiple teams, including the New Orleans Hornets, to join their front office in some sort of capacity.

"Am I looking one day to be more involved and more active in (basketball)? Absolutely," Malone said as he sat at the Jazz's practice facility after helping franchise brass assess four first-round prospects. "But it's just a step ? kind of like starting off again, at the same place.

"I don't mind starting at the bottom, being on the sideline," he added. "When I came out of college (Louisiana Tech, in 1985), I did the same thing."

"I've been talking to the Jazz, really, for the last couple months," he said. "They called, and (asked) would I be interested in coming up and seeing what I think. And I said, 'Why not?'

"This is the reason I came," Malone added. "I wasn't 'passing through.' ... I have ambitions of things that I would like to try. It's 'a step.'

"I know being a coach ? assistant, head coach, whatever ? that's 'the grind' all over again," he said. "Another level, you have a little more leeway.

"I don't know if it will be 'full-time,'" Malone added. "In some capacity, who know? I'm not saying I'm throwing my hat in the ring. But it would have to be the right situation for me. And it would have to be the right situation for a team."

Hassan Adams Works Out For Jazz

May 16, 2006 11:45 PM

The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that the Jazz had Arizona guard Hassan Adams, Temple's Mardy Collins, Cincinnati's James White and Michigan State's Maurice Ager in for an interview and workout Wednesday.

A projected second-round pick, Adams hopes a series of outstanding workouts and a good showing at the Orlando pre-draft camp - if he gets an invitation - will propel him into the first round.

"Who knows where he ends up, if he gets to Orlando and plays well?" Jazz vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor said.

Adams has been involved in at least three off-the-court incidents in the last six months that will have him in court in the coming weeks.

Larry Miller: Team Shortfall $10M This Season

May 13, 2006 10:44 PM

Utah Jazz' monetary losses exceeded $10 million last season, owner Larry Miller told The Salt Lake Tribune - and approaches $25 million over the past two seasons.

"We're losing a lot of money. Huge numbers," Miller said of the team he has owned for 21 seasons. "Blow-your-mind numbers."

"The past couple of years have hurt us, big time," Miller admitted. "It's painful."

But it's self-inflicted pain, said the Jazz owner, who estimates that only "eight or nine" of the 30 NBA teams lost money last season.
