Troy Brown Jr. sustained a strain of his left calf during routine workouts on Monday.
Brown is expected to miss approximately four weeks.
Justin Anderson has signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Washington Wizards.
Anderson played for the Atlanta Hawks last season.
The Wizards are already at capacity with their roster in terms of guaranteed deals and Two-Ways.
Isaiah Thomas underwent successful surgery to repair a rupture of the radial collateral ligament of his left thumb. The injury occurred during routine workouts on Monday.
Thomas is expected to miss 6-8 weeks before returning to action.
“This was an unfortunate setback for Isaiah, but with his resolve and the top care he will receive from our medical team, we expect him to make a full recovery,” said Wizards General Manager Tommy Sheppard. “In the meantime, he will continue to mentor our young guards and have a positive impact on the team as we start training camp.”
The procedure was performed this morning by Dr. Curtis Henn with assistance by Wizards Orthopedist Dr. Wiemi Douoguih at MedStar.
The Washington Wizards have been resistant to trade offers on Bradley Beal.
Beal will become a free agent in 2021 if he doesn't sign an extension before then.
"The way that I look at this is pretty simple: If you were looking to build a team, Brad would be the type of player anyone would want to start with," Tommy Sheppard told CBS Sports. "You look at the character, the talent, the age, just the whole package ... Brad is without a doubt a core player in this league. Every team would love to have him, and we do. So we've never considered anything other than a situation where Brad is with us and leading us forward. We made that clear to him on the first day we could offer him an extension, and we'll continue to make that clear."
Rod Thorn will join the Washington Wizards in an advisory role, league sources told Marc Stein of The New York Times.
Thorn had been working as a special consultant to the Bucks since 2015.
Thorn was named the NBA Executive of the Year in 2002 after the Nets made the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.
Rui Hachimura will sit out Japan's final two games in the FIBA World Cup due to knee discomfort and fatigue.
"While everyone had hoped for Rui to finish the World Cup with Team Japan, the Wizards and Japan Basketball believe it is best for Rui to not play the final two games and have a short period of rest before he must start NBA training camp with the Wizards which begins only three weeks from now," announced the Japanese Basketball Association in a statement through the Wizards.
Hachimura was held to 4 points in Japan's 98-45 loss to Team USA on Thursday.
The Washington Wizards have not made Bradley Beal available in trade talks, according to sources that spoke with Zach Lowe of ESPN.
Beal is just 26 and can become a free agent in 2021.
