Durant: I Want Brooks Back As Coach

Mar 30, 2009 5:10 PM

The Thunder are going to have to decide what to do with interim coach Scott Brooks this offseason, and Kevin Durant has some advice for general manager Sam Presti.

"I believe that [management] will make the right decision," Durant said. "I have [Brooks's] back, but I'm not the type of guy that will go in the office to tell them what to do. But I want him to be back as our coach of the future."

Durant believes that Brooks is the right coach to help put the Thunder on the NBA map.

"I'm still trying to establish my team," Durant said. "They don't think about Oklahoma City. But hopefully, they'll take a look at us."

Phil Jackson Criticizes Thunder Fans

Mar 24, 2009 4:18 PM

Lakers coach Phil Jackson believes that fans in Oklahoma City still have some learning to do when it comes to the NBA game.

"They haven't quite figured out the NBA game, the length of it," Jackson said. "They get all fired up in the beginning, and it's a marathon. It's 48 minutes of basketball. It's not like college, where you can come out and get a 10-point lead or 15-point lead and you can win the game."

Durant Likely To Return Against Suns

Mar 14, 2009 6:28 PM

Kevin Durant is listed as probable for Oklahoma City's game against Phoenix on Saturday night, and he is expected to return from a sprained right ankle.

Durant has missed seven games with the injury, a grade II sprain suffered on Feb. 27. He's no longer concerned about his ankle, but doesn't feel the same about his conditioning.

"My wind is terrible right now," Durant said Wednesday, following a pre-game workout. "I was tired out there. It was one those tires where I didn't know where I was at. I was dazed."

The Thunder are 5-2 with Durant out of the lineup, and he doesn't want to step in and mess up the momentum that his teammates have worked hard to achieve.

"I feel like I just got traded and went to a new team, because we've been playing so well and I haven't played in a long time," Durant said. "I just want to come in and be myself and just mesh with the guys as much as possible."

Thunder Haven't Discussed Extension With Brooks

Mar 11, 2009 4:18 PM

Thunder coach Scott Brooks is unsure of his future because the organization hasn't begun talks on a contract extension.

"I'm still interim (coach)," Brooks said. "I'm thankful for the opportunity. I've gotten a lot of games under my belt. I think I'm getting better. I think our team is improving. We're focused on the next (18 games). We're not going to throw away these games looking forward to the summer or next season. These are important games for not only myself but for our team to get better."

Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti has maintained all along that Brooks' status will be evaluated at the end of the season.
