Garcia Suffers Setback In Return

Jan 30, 2010 10:55 AM

Kings swingman Francisco Garcia has suffered a setback in his return from a broken right wrist.

He was expected to return in the coming days, but he's now taking a "day-to-day" approach because of a fall late in practice on Thursday.

"It gets sore," García said. "I practice good, but like yesterday (Thursday), I fell on my wrist and it's sore now ... I (can't return) until I feel fully confident that I can get out there and fall on the floor and I'm going to be OK."

Kings Unlikely To Make Play For Amar'e

Jan 27, 2010 5:03 PM

Kings president Geoff Petrie says that he will consider any trade that would benefit the team, but Amar'e Stoudemire isn't a likely option.

"If there's something that makes sense for us, we'll take a hard look at it," Petrie said.

Two sources close to the Kings told the Sacramento Bee it would be "highly unlikely" that Stoudemire would re-sign with the team this summer.

Mavs Very Interested In Kevin Martin

Jan 22, 2010 12:19 PM

Even though Sacramento continues to insist they do not want to deal Kevin Martin, the Mavericks show a serious interest in the shooting guard.

The Mavericks, according to NBA front-office sources, tell the Kings they want to hear from them if they change their position.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that Dallas is now willing to include Josh Howard in a deal.

Nocioni Continues To Be On Block

Jan 20, 2010 10:47 AM

With a glut of small forwards, Sacramento's Geoff Petrie will be looking to even out his roster by the trade deadline.

"Geoff knows the roster," Paul Westphal said with a laugh. "We're always available to try to improve the team (via trade), but it is what it is, too."

League sources continue to indicate Nocioni is the likely piece to be moved.

Nocioni is owed a combined $21 million during the next three seasons, and the Kings could either trade him for expiring money and gain $6.85 million in salary-cap room this summer, or include him in a deal for a big man they need.

"Noc is a real pro," Westphal said. "He said to me the first meeting we had (in the summer), and he has been true to his word, that whatever we want and whatever role he has, he's fine with it and he'll come as a pro and handle it.

"I don't know that I'd say 'It's not fair to him,' but it's the not the way that it should be at this stage of his career for him. But it's an unsolvable problem. Whatever we decide, a good player is going to get left out."

Nocioni indicated that he doesn't follow the rumor mills online in an effort to keep his sanity.

Tyreke Evans Sued In Delaware County

Jan 19, 2010 3:50 PM

Sacramento rookie Tyreke Evans and his cousin are amongst four named in a wrongful-death civil suit filed in Delaware County, the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting.

The family of Marcus Reason, who was killed by Jamar Evans, Tyreke's cousin, in November 2007 in a drive-by shooting, is asking for a judgment in excess of $50,000.

In January 2009, Jamar Evans pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and weapons offenses. He was sentenced to nine to 20 years for murder and other weapons charges. He also received eight years of probation.

Jamar Evans was 16 when he pulled a gun and fired from the passenger side of a Ford Expedition driven by Tyreke Evans.

Tyreke Evans drove off immediately after the gunfire. He was not charged in the crime, and police said he cooperated in their investigation.

NBA Supports New Arena For Kings In Sacramento

Jan 15, 2010 11:26 AM

The NBA has announced its support for a land-swap proposal that would pave the way for construction of a new entertainment complex in downtown Sacramento.  The arena could be the new home of the Kings.

The proposal was unveiled Thursday with NBA league executives and international financiers in attendance.

The concept was offered by Gerry Kamilos, a suburban Sacramento land developer, and is one of seven proposals submitted at the request of Sacramento Mayor and former NBA player Kevin Johnson.

The city of Sacramento risks the Kings moving out of town if a new arena is not built to replace the 22-year old Arco Arena.

Raptors, Cavs, Suns, Rockets Interested In Kevin Martin

Jan 13, 2010 10:59 AM

Kevin Martin is closing in on a return to game-action, which could be the beginning of an audition for other teams.  Many teams are hoping to land Martin by the February trade deadline should the Kings make him available.

League sources indicate Houston, Toronto, Cleveland, Phoenix and Dallas are among those keeping watch.

The Kings, who are believed to be looking for a significant frontcourt addition, have given no indication they intend to move Martin.  There is, however, doubt by some that a backcourt combo of Tyreke Evans and Martin will not work in the longterm.

Kevin Martin Cleared To Practice

Jan 13, 2010 6:55 AM

Kings guard Kevin Martin has been cleared to practice after missing over two months because of a fractured left wrist.

Martin had surgery on Nov. 9 to repair the hairline fracture.

"I'm excited to have him back," coach Paul Westphal said. "It will be a big hurdle [Wednesday] when he scrimmages and we see how his timing is and how he feels. We'll know a lot more then."

Martin will join the Kings on their upcoming six-game road trip beginning in Philadelphia on Friday night.

He averaged 30.6 points through five games before suffering the injury.

Kings May Be Asking Too Much Of Evans

Jan 11, 2010 4:45 PM

Kings coach Paul Westphal admitted on Sunday that he may be asking for too much from rookie point guard Tyreke Evans.

"I think that he's handled everything so well, you tend to heap things on him," Westphal said. "But it's a concern, for sure. It doesn't necessarily stop me from giving him a lot of responsibility, but it's something to think about. You wish that you had the type of team where you could take it a little slower, but we don't."

Sacramento is awaiting the returns of Kevin Martin and Francisco Garcia. Their absence has forced the Kings to put a lot of weight of the shoulders of the rookie.

Hilton Armstrong Traded To Kings

Jan 11, 2010 2:33 PM

The Kings have acquired center Hilton Armstrong from the Hornets.

The Hornets, who are attempting to clear salary from their payroll, will also send cash to Sacramento.

For New Orleans, the trade sheds the $2.8 million salary of Armstrong and leaves the team a bit more than $500,000 over this season's luxury-tax threshold.

The Kings will send the Hornets a future, conditional second-round pick.
