Jazz Exercise Option On C.J. Miles, Favors, Hayward

Jun 29, 2011 7:06 PM

The Jazz picked up C.J. Miles’ $3.7 million team option for the 2011-12 season on Wednesday. He would have become an unrestricted free agent if Utah declined the option.

"Thank all the fans for the support and the organization for belief that [I] can help this team. ... Now I'm back to work," Miles said on his Twitter account.

Miles, 24, has played all six of his NBA seasons for the Jazz.

The Jazz also picked up the team option on Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward for the 2012-13 season.

Kanter Plans To Play For Turkish National Team

Jun 28, 2011 7:07 PM

Jazz center Enes Kanter plans to play for Turkey's national team in the 2011 EuroBasket tournament if there is an NBA lockout.

Kanter said last Wednesday before being drafted by Utah that he would likely participate in the tournament, which is scheduled August 31-September 18 in Lithuania.

He added that he would not play professionally in Turkey during a lockout, but would consider signing with a European team.

Alec Burks: I Can Compete For Minutes Right Away In Utah

Jun 25, 2011 2:30 PM

After a dominating two seasons in Colorado despite not being a highly heralded recruit, Utah Jazz rookie Alec Burks is confident he can contribute immediately in the NBA.

“I like that Coach [Tyrone] Corbin says it will be a wide-open competition for minutes,” Burks said. “That’s the way I like it. It’s what I’ve been used to my entire career. I have to earn the right to eat.”

Jazz GM: You Can Never Have Too Many Bigs

Jun 24, 2011 2:08 AM

After taking Enes Kanter No. 3 overall, the Utah Jazz have a bit of a logjam upfront. Kanter joins a crowded front-court rotation of Derrick Favors, Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap and Mehmet Okur, who is still recovering from a torn Achilles.

"It's like starting pitching. You can't get enough of that," Jazz GM Kevin O'Connor said. "Big guys are tough to come by. We certainly moved Paul over to play some 3 (small forward) at times, and we play (against) big lineups like the Lakers and some of the other big lineups, and (Kanter) may see a little more time with those. Maybe it's good for competition."

Kanter Expects To Be Taken In Top-3, Likes Jazz

Jun 22, 2011 9:06 PM

A number of experts have Enes Kanter just outside of the top trio of picks in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, but don’t tell the big man that.

Kanter has been often linked to the Utah Jazz, who own the third overall selection. But Brandon Knight is also the player most often believed to be Utah's preferred pick.

Asked often about the possibility of playing for the Jazz, Kanter admitted that he would be comfortable in Salt Lake City.

“First of all, I like the Jazz because they play together and they are a very good team,” he said Wednesday. “I believe I can help them. I played against the head coach one-on-one, he’s tough.”

Utah also holds the 12th overall pick in the first round.

“I just talked to him and I think I’d be great for them,” Kanter said when asked to expand on his game of one-on-one against head coach Tyrone Corbin.

When asked about his expectations heading into the draft, the big man appeared confident.

“I will say … top three,” he predicted.

Sensing that he favors Utah as his NBA home, a reporter outright asked Kanter if he thinks the Jazz will draft him third overall.

“Yeah, they might,” he smiled. “I hope.”

Marcus Morris Claims To Be 'Most Complete' Player In Draft

Jun 20, 2011 10:07 AM

Marcus Morris says it like he sees it.

"Honestly, I think I'm the most complete player in the draft," the 6-9 Morris said. "I think I'm one of those guys that can just do a lot. (There are) lots of parts of my game I can hang my hat on."

Walt Perrin, the Jazz's vice president of player personnel, laughed when asked to comment on Morris' confident comment.
"That's a guy who has confidence in himself," Perrin said.

Perrin is glad Morris believes strongly in his game, but, yes, there was a proverbial "but."

"That's his opinion," Perrin said, smiling. "His opinion doesn't count on draft night."

Vesely To Work Out For Five Teams

Jun 17, 2011 9:51 AM

According to a league source, the Wizards will be in New Jersey on Sunday to watch athletic forward Jan Vesely of the Czech Republic.

The 6-foot-11 Vesely wasn’t expected to work out for NBA teams in advance of the draft, and the Wizards were among a handful of teams in attendance when he scored 18 points to lead Partizan Belgrade to the Serbian title last week. Toronto, Utah, Cleveland and possibly Detroit are expected to witness Vesely’s lone workout for NBA teams.

The Wizards have been high on Vesely for some time and some scouts believe that he would be the perfect fit for a team that likes to run and push the tempo (or rather a team with John Wall playing point guard).

Knight Issues Challenge To Irving

Jun 16, 2011 3:00 PM

Brandon Knight ran through an hour-long solo workout Thursday with the Jazz. After the session was over, the 19-year-old that many predict Utah will select with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft delivered an unexpected message.

Knight strongly feels that he ranks among the most talented athletes in a weak draft class. And after being accused during recent weeks of ducking prospects such as ex-Connecticut guard Kemba Walker during pre-draft sessions, Knight revealed his true aspiration.

“The guy I'm trying to work out against is Kyrie Irving,” said Knight, referring to the former Duke point guard widely expected to be taken No. 1 overall by Cleveland.
