Jan 28, 2012 11:37 AM

The Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks are pursuing free-agent forward Kenyon Martin, according to league sources.

Martin signed a $2.6 million deal with Xinjiang during the lockout, but left the team in late December in hopes of returning to the NBA.

Warriors, Bobcats, Raptors Most Frequently Use Zone Defense

Jan 19, 2012 10:31 AM

The Warriors play zone 10.3% of the time, followed by the Bobcats (9.3%) and Raptors (7.5%), according to Synergy Sports, which tracks every NBA play and provides in-depth statistical analysis.

The Hawks face zone defenses the most, on 9.2% of their possessions, followed by the Heat (8.8%), Bobcats (8.3%) and Thunder (7.5%).

It's no coincidence the Heat and Thunder face zones.

"Those might be the two most athletic teams," TNT analyst Steve Kerr said.

Hawks Considering Signing Free Agent Center To Fill-In For Horford

Jan 13, 2012 10:30 AM

Hawks general manager Rick Sund said the team hadn’t yet decided if it would seek to sign a free-agent center to fill in for Al Horford, who suffered a torn left pectoral muscle and is expected to return near the end of the regular season.

“We’ll sit down the next three of four days and talk it over to see if there’s anything we want to do,” Sund said. “Do we want to go with the status quo, or how do we want to do it.”

For now the Hawks will push forward with All-Star guard Joe Johnson and talented power forward Josh Smith as their main cogs.

“We still have enough talent to be an elite team in the East,” Johnson said. “We understand one man can’t do it all. We have to trust each other. We have to muster up a little more to make up for what we’ve lost.”

Jan 12, 2012 3:10 PM

Al Horford is expected to miss three to four months with a torn left pectoral muscle, according to a source.

Horford sustained the injury in the first half of Wednesday's game.

“We are very disappointed for Al and our team and we wish him the best as he moves forward in the rehabilitation process,” said Hawks’ Executive Vice President and General Manager Rick Sund in a statement. “He has contributed greatly to our success since his arrival in Atlanta, and that’s evident by his selection to the NBA’s All-League team last season (third team pick).”

McGrady Says Surgically Repaired Knee Hasn't Felt This Good In A Long Time

Jan 3, 2012 10:38 AM

Tracy McGrady scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter of the Hawks' 100-92 win over the Heat on Monday.

“It feels good,” McGrady said. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had that feeling. My legs feel fresh. Everything just feels good. It feels right. That’s a good sign. I haven’t felt this good in a long time, probably since the beginning of my knee injury.”

McGrady relished the opportunity of playing against LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

“I’m a competitor, especially competing against the best, LeBron and D-Wade,” he said. “I’m always up for the challenge. Those guys, it brings the best out of you. It felt pretty good.”
