Josh Smith is entering the final year of his contract with the Hawks but it is “unlikely” that he will be re-signed before the end of the upcoming season.

“I’ve been clear that I value Josh as a player,” Hawks general manager Danny Ferry said. “He has worked hard this summer and I believe he is going to have great season. I’ve been in contact with his representatives. Josh and his representatives have been clear that he is excited about the direction of the team and wants to be part of the future in Atlanta. That being said, I don’t expect the contract situation to be resolved until next summer.”

After the 2012-13 season, Smith will be eligible for a five-year extension worth about $120 million.

Anthony Tolliver has agreed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks.

Tolliver spent the past two seasons with the Timberwolves.

The Atlanta Hawks have waived Jordan Williams.

Williams was acquired from Brooklyn on July 11, along with Anthony Morrow, DeShawn Stevenson, Johan Petro, Jordan Farmar, a first- and second-round pick, and other draft considerations, in exchange for Joe Johnson.

The Atlanta Hawks and Ivan Johnson have agreed on a new one-year deal for the 12-13 season.

Johnson was a restricted free agent.

Johnson went undrafted out of Cal State San Bernardino.

The San Antonio Spurs will workout Kyrylo Fesenko.

Fesenko is also receiving interest from the Cavaliers, Hawks and Heat.

Atlanta Hawks' head coach Larry Drew went to Israel recently to meet with and observe Maccabi Tel Aviv head coach David Blatt.

“Larry respects the international game and is enjoying the opportunity to share ideas with David Blatt,” Danny Ferry wrote in a text message. “David is a heckuva coach and I know that Larry appreciates that David has been so open. I know Larry is enjoying the opportunity to closely watch [Maccabi's] program. It is a highly respected program.”

Blatt also coach the Russian team to the Bronze medal in the 2012 Olympics.

Damion James and the Atlanta Hawks have reached agreement on a one-year deal.

James played 32 games with the Brooklyn Nets over the first two seasons of his NBA career after being the 24th overall pick out of Texas.

James was actually drafted by the Hawks as part of a trade.

Mike Scott has agreed to a two-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks.

Scott, the 43th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Virginia, was an All-ACC First Team selection.
