Denver shot 50% on the night, but New Orleans attempted seven more free throws and 12-for-23 from behind the three-point line. J.R. Both teams grabbed forty rebounds while Orlando turned the ball over three more times. However, the Magic attempted an astounding 54 free throws. The Hornets, 5-5, have been mediocre this season and appear to need help on both sides of the ball.

The loss of Jannero Pargo, who bolted for Europe this season, appears to have meant more to New Orleans than many intially thought.

Jamaal Tinsley and Stephon Marbury, both firmly entrenched in the doghouses of the Pacers and Knicks respectively, could help solve coach Byron Scott's problem.

Hornets point guard Chris Paul is approaching an NBA record for consecutive games with a steal, as he sits just 12 games shy of the watermark.

Former Spurs guard Alvin Robertson recorded a steal in 105 straight games in the mid-1980s.

Paul has a steal in 93 straight contests, having surpassed Michael Jordan's record (77) at the end of last season.

"He's got an uncanny ability to know where the ball is going," New Orleans coach Bryon Scott said.

Paul is averaging three steals per game this season.

With the Lakers in town Wednesday, Hornets' head coach Byron Scott was asked about returning to Los Angeles as the head coach of the team he once played for.

"I'm going to be honest, yeah, I thought about it a lot," Scott said. "That's home for me. That's an organization that will be embedded in my heart for the rest of my life."

New Orleans' head coach Byron Scott isn't happy with the production of backup point guard Mike James so far this season.

Scott wants James to take less shots and set up his teammates more. He has considered altering the rotation but decided against it for now.

"Through six games, not real pleased with the way Mike has played," Scott said. "After the first five games, I was almost ready to make a change, then in the sixth game he played pretty good. Right now, it's obviously not solidified in my mind. He has to continue to play much better. Any slippage, I might be making a change there. Right now, it's quarter to quarter. He has to be a point guard that runs the team a little better, and he can't be shot first. He has to get those other guys involved."

Chris Paul set an NBA record on Saturday night as his Hornets routed the Heat to end a two-game losing skid.

Paul became the first player in NBA history to start a season with six games with 20 or more points and 10 or more assists, surpassing Oscar Robertson, who achieved fine consecutive games in 1968.

"Whatever I can do to help us win, that's what I'm going to do," Paul said. "It's an unbelievable honor to be mentioned in the same breath as Oscar Robertson. He averaged a triple double for a full season."

Chris Paul expects anywhere from 400 to 500 relatives and friends to attend Friday's game at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte.

"Some of my family members, it's the only time they get to see me play in the NBA, " Paul said. "They see me on TV, but this is the only time in person. And usually my coaches from Wake (Forest) get to come up, too."

The NBA announced Monday that Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh was named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Tuesday, October 28 through Sunday, November 2.

Bosh led the Raptors to a franchise record-tying 3-0 mark to open the season, averaging 26.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.

The New Orleans Hornets? Chris Paul was named Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 21.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 12.0 assists, and 2.3 steals on the week.

The Hornets were without starters Tyson Chandler and Peja Stojakovic in their home opener against Cleveland on Saturday night, with both players held out due to sprained right ankles, the Associated Press is reporting.
