Hornets' Scott: 50-50 Shot At Deal

Feb 19, 2008 5:23 PM

New Orleans' Coach Byron Scott says that there is a 50-50 shot that the team will make a deal before Thursday's trade deadline, according to Ian Thompson of Sports Illustrated.

If anything, the Hornets could use some help off the bench.

"I'm a little concerned about our bench play," Scott admitted, "and that's why we've been trying to do some things the last month or so as far as upgrading our bench. But if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen."

Read Along As We Blog During The 57th Annual NBA All-Star Game

Feb 17, 2008 9:54 PM

Read along as RealGM Senior Writer Andrew Perna provides readers with a running blog during the 57th annual NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans on Sunday night:

8:03PM - As TNT begins its All-Star coverage, Jason Kidd-to-Dallas is still the biggest story. If I can ask Turner to do me one favor tonight, let's make this about the participants and not what may happen as the league switches into the second half.

8:05PM - Chris Paul is quickly becoming one of the most marketable faces in the NBA. As the point guard of the New Orleans Hornets , he also has the chance to become the face of a city climbing towards a rebirth. Both would be fine by me, he's as enigmatic as they come.

8:10PM - How awkward was that David Aldridge interview with J-Kidd? I think he sealed his fate, by saying that he's "hoping to be in Dallas". That has to hurt if you are Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson or any of Kidd's other Nets' teammates. It sounds like he wouldn't mind switching over to the Western squad at halftime.

8:13PM - You think Kobe wants to be playing? Never mind, because he answered that question for us all minutes before the tipoff. Just let him be on the court for the opening minute, and then sit him on the sideline so the Lakers can preserve their season.

Stern: Seattle To Lose Sonics; Hornets May Remain In New Orleans

Feb 17, 2008 12:19 AM

NBA commissioner David Stern said Saturday he expects the Sonics to leave the city, either this year or when their lease expires in 2010, according to an Associated Press report.

"It's apparent to all who are watching that the Sonics are heading out of Seattle," Stern said during his annual All-Star Weekend news conference. "I accept that inevitability at this point. There is no miracle here."

Stern spoke more hopefully about the future of the Hornets here. The franchise will have the right to opt out of its lease at New Orleans Arena if it doesn't average 14,735 fans at the end of the 2008-09 season

New Orleans Ready For All-Star Weekend

Feb 13, 2008 5:09 PM

After properly handling Mardi Gras, it appears as though the city of New Orleans is ready to host this weekend's All-Star festivities, according to the Associated Press.

"The NBA security team has visited the city at least 20 times," Mayor Ray Nagin told the AP. "They started getting comfortable with our ability to handle crowds pretty quick, but once they saw the crowd at Mardi Gras and the way we did things, they said if any city in the country can give us a good, safe game, this is it."

"We had been able to get a behind the scene look at plans for that event and then come back and see it in motion," NBA Vice President Ski Austin said on Wednesday. "It was certainly an impressive display."
