Kings Give Bobby Brown Guaranteed Contract

Jul 23, 2008 9:31 PM

The Sacramento Kings have given guard Bobby Brown a guaranteed contract for two years, Marc Stein from ESPN.com is reporting.

The second year of Brown's new deal, sources said, is a player option.

Brown was chased by a number of teams in the last week, including the New Orleans Hornets, where Brown was impressive as the lead guard in the Las Vegas summer league.  The Warriors were also believed to be interested.

Israel's Maccabi Tel-Aviv has been pursuing Brown aggressively this month, but sources said Brown was on the verge of accepting a multiyear deal "in the millions" from Spanish giant Barcelona this week when Sacramento increased its bid.

Brown outplayed three first-round picks -- Memphis' Mike Conley, Charlotte's D.J. Augustin, and San Antonio's George Hill -- in head-to-head matchups in Las Vegas.

Posey Signs, Sees Contender On Rise

Jul 23, 2008 8:35 PM

The New Orleans Hornets officially signed forward James Posey to a five year, $25 million contract on Wednesday, the Associated Press is reporting.

"I look for them to do big things this upcoming season, after the great things they did last season," Posey said. "I want to contribute as best I can."

"You can see, it's just sitting right there with the young core they have. Chris Paul is a great leader, and with David West, Peja [Stojakovic], and Tyson Chandler, they have a group that competes every single day. I hope I'm the missing piece that furthers them on this journey."

Chandler's Sore Toe Leaves Team USA Shorthanded

Jul 22, 2008 2:15 AM

While USA Basketball officials are not saying he is completely out of the mix, plans were thrown off track on Monday when Tyson Chandler was forced to sit with a toe injury, according to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN.

"We just found out about it a couple days ago, so what we're going to do is look at the pool of [alternates] and let a couple people know that if something happens, you are probably going to be the guy -- but we haven't decided yet who those guys are going to be."

The alternates for Team USA are Chandler, Shawn Marion, Mike Miller, Kevin Durant, Chauncey Billups, and Joe Johnson.

After Team USA officials learned that Dwight Howard had suffered a hairline fracture of his sternum, they decided to invite Chandler to travel with Team USA to Asia for a series of pre-Olympic exhibition games.

Lue Signs With Bucks

Jul 16, 2008 9:58 PM

The Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics both missed out on their free agent target on Wednesday, when point guard Tyronn Lue agreed to a two year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, the East Valley Tribune is reporting.

Lue signed for the bi-annual exception of $1.9 million, which Phoenix did not have available after using the exception on Grant Hill last season.

The move comes as a double blow for the Celtics, who earlier in the day lost free agent James Posey to the New Orleans Hornets.

The Suns will now look at Sam Cassell, Jason Williams, and Shaun Livingston, or they could try to trade to find a backup for Steve Nash.
